Fellow Ninjas, anyone had shingles? I contracted it end of last week and the pain is unbearable :( got antiviral amd painkilling medications from my Doctor, who also sent me to have my eyes checked as she thought it may be there too but thankfully eyes are clear at the moment.

The pain is unbearable at times and I cant touch the top and side of my head or ear and neck and now look like the Elephant Man on my left side...

Any advice how to manage the pain and infection greatfully received

Ron

OH Towser

My Mum had them a few years ago she was in agony . I think it lasted the real bad pain just over a mouth .

Try Colomine Lotion and Vitamin C . The Quacks told her dont scratch as you can risk bacterial infection and with your immunity being low anyway.

Thinking of you flower . @Towser Ohhh edit talk to your Pharmacist as well . I'm finding at the moment thire more on top of new treatments potions Lotions than the Quacks ( Doctors ) .

Kai has had a fungal infection 6 weeks 4 creams 3 Doctors trips still hanging around. 2 weeks ago 1 pharmacist 1 cream almost gone Rest my case mate .

Sorry to hear about it @Towser. I heard about this virus.
Just a heads up Ninjas. If you had chickenpox, you have this virus inactive in your body that may reactivate later as shingles.
Getting vaccines can help reduce the risk of shingles.

Thank you all, copious amounts of calamine lotion also being used with little effect :( Cant scratch at the moment as the area is too painful to even touch, but I am worried about possible scarring as it is on the left side of my face too, amazing as even when I was a teenager I never had spots on my face at all. In pain for a month, bloody hell Ann, I have had the pain for 5 days now and its unbearable, cant imagine how I will feel in another 2-3 weeks, I am a miserable git at the best of times just ask Keith @KD Scorp

I had chickenpox when I was a kid and I recall luke-warm baths used to be very soothing. Not sure if it would help in this case mate. Try calling the doc to see if there is any alternate medication you can take for the pain.

I'm never miserable! I am an absolute delight!!

In all seriousness, hope you get well soon Dad. Can't imagine the pain you're in! If it's anything near the pain that I suffer listening to you complain about it then I suppose I can understand what you're going through ;)

I am only joking of course.

Speedy recovery! Me, Hayley and the kids are thinking about you.

Oops, that should have said ask, I have corrected my post ;)

@PunkNinja I hope I don't miss Ninja week, really need one of those beautiful black coins to complete my set

@denizen tried a bath last night (isn't even my Birthday yet :) ) and it feels worse today don't thin that is the baths fault though just the progression of the disease.

Sorry to hear that @Towser :( I can only imagine the pain you must be going through, last year a co-worker had gone into short term disability due to the insane amount of pain he was experiencing :dunno:

Hang in there Ron! :) We're always here for you buddy!

Just anything that may help even a vest of stinging nettles and horse hair :lurk: . EEK! no I dont mean it .
