I think that there is a chance that the studio gave Zavvi a choice of different artwork to use and this might be the best option they decided to go with. If the cover had some red on it (preferably the title) then it would really help break it up a bit. Then zoom out / sort out the cropping and it starts to look better.

Zavvi check the forums and get feedback direct from the team here so I'm sure they will be aware of the poor reaction this is getting and may do something about it if possible.

Personally I'm not really a fan of the movie (yup, you heard right) but I think artwork which is truer to its comic book roots would be better than another adapted Alba poster (even though I'm definitely a fan of her!)

I was completely happy to not have this to order since I have it twice already; but as soon as I saw it I was like, "Dang it! I have to have it. It's too awesome." Seriously. It's a fantastic choice.

As a slipcover design, the artwork is not bad as the amaray may have artwork more reflective of the movie. As the main artwork on a steelbook, I feel there is a disconnect considering there is no title on the front. I as many here do not think of Sin City when I look at the front. You need some iconic art to pull it off and this is not it IMO.

I like it because it's different to whats out there & it's from the comic books but I admit it should be cropped better.
I do think that Zavvi are knocking these Steelbooks out too fast now and already getting carried away with these 2k limited releases. Would rather have quality over quantity.

I think Zavvi and Lionsgate need to take in the Feedback as so far the majority not liking this artwork

They need to show us all the front/back and inside artwork and then look at the overall feedback we give

If its still not liked a suggestion they give us a choice of artwork to vote on and that way we get a majority vote
Some of course will not agree as that will happen with any artwork

This Film is a Cult Film and requires the fans input to make it special
Zavvi/Lionsgate give us a choice of Artwork to vote on and then ask Robert Rodriguez if he approves of our choice and make it a 2 Disc Blu-ray and a suggestion a comic booklet as a unique extra
and of course be a glossy finish
Make this a special release and listen to the fans

Totally agree!

Very limited and I'm guessing not going to be a budget price, they seriously need to reconsider! It's pretty much hated across the sites I've seen comments on!

After Machete Kills he needs to come back with something amazing before he's known as the director that makes the worst steels. Shame as I love this and many of his other films.

Can't really see this beating the Best Buy full gloss masterpiece which would have sold out very quickly! But at present with this art it's not even 1% as good.

If they stick with this art and it only has the theatrical cut it will be one of the worst steelbooks ever made. It's print run won't save it.

You know with Zavvi taken a big interest in Steelbooks these days I don't see why, if they know about this site, they don't actually give us designs to vote on and let us choose between glossy, matte, embossed, debossed etc.

I understand if they are world wide release but if they are Zavvi exclusives I don't see why they can't do polls on here and such.

You know how amazing future steelbooks could be with fan input, not to mention there is some talented people on here which do some great mock ups and I'm guessing they wouldn't mind letting Zavvi borrow some of their ideas.

As someone who's also read the comics, I don't mind this art, though there's a LOT of better choices out there. I can easily understand why people may not like it, too. My gripe is that this promo image shows it as black and white, but it'll probably end up being printed with black and silver.

If a SteelBook comes out later in the year for the second film and its design matches this one, it'll be worth it in the end.

I guess that's the main problem, while many mention the comics they were a very niche readership, where as the film went out to a far bigger Audience and was heavily marketed for who was involved Director wise to hit the RR/QT market. Probably less than 20% of the audience had ever read the comics.

The new film has Alba placed in a much more central role with far more screen time "Roberts words". I can see the 2nd one matching the already released Alba versions over this. :D

"Sorry I'm out of thanks at present"
