What is it with these monochrome/two colour steelbooks, I'm fed up of just two colours.

I know it's cheaper to print in fewer colours but it's just seems that every second steelbook is going the cheap way.

You know with Zavvi taken a big interest in Steelbooks these days I don't see why, if they know about this site, they don't actually give us designs to vote on and let us choose between glossy, matte, embossed, debossed etc.

I understand if they are world wide release but if they are Zavvi exclusives I don't see why they can't do polls on here and such.

You know how amazing future steelbooks could be with fan input, not to mention there is some talented people on here which do some great mock ups and I'm guessing they wouldn't mind letting Zavvi borrow some of their ideas.

One word. Money.

They seem to have found their perfect model in the "Ultra Limited" 2K runs.
Why go to the effort of letting a community pick art and finish when you can just limit it to 2K and throw out any old muck?

Most people would vote for gloss and some form of bossing which would add to cost.

Yes why go to the effort of letting your customers decide what is best thereby improving sales and confidence in your business when you can pick some really terrible artwork and be ridiculed for it? Maybe because as has been said about a million times on this forum, Zavvi don't design Steelbooks. I like the fact that everyone is assuming it is matte, the last Lionsgate title was glossy.

Indeed, but they have some say in what the design IS on their exclusive steels. As we have seen before that Zavvi have altered designs due to feedback here (Wreck it Ralph springs to mind) and had HDN decide interior art on some releases.

So Zavvi can clearly influence the design to some extent on the exclusive products only THEY sell. Now obviously any design that they (or whoever they task with coming up with the designs) make has to then be authorised by the studio in question. But it is safe to say there are a bunch of Sin City designs that would easily get the go ahead, as they have done elsewhere.

Also promising is that their Jackie Brown steelbook was white, not Lawrence of Arabia levels of white but it wasn't silver/grey either.

Can't think of any other white Lionsgate steels off the top of my head.

I get the feeling that maybe half of us are collectors who will buy any ol' tat just because it's steel. The other half - reasonable buyers who pick and choose steel for films they love.
hey! other 2000! yeah you! you suck! :p
I kid, I kid.

DB, Mods, can we get a poll going? - a simple 'would you buy this steelbook as of now with this art?' - yes - no.
See if that get's the generals attention? :naughty:
What do you think?

I said a few weeks ago that Zavvi would milk the "ultra limited print run" cash cow and how they have.

As long as they sell out all 2000 copies, why would they care about the design and what we think? Looking at the last 4-5 exclusives, I think that's pretty obvious.

With a 4000 print run, they would have had to sit down and think about it, as they may be left with a lot of unsold stock - but they won't with this, as no one wants to "miss out"

At this moment in time, Zavvi could release any title and stick a spot glossed steaming turd on it, but as long as it's a low print run, people will buy that s@it!

It's just weird. I remember people blaming zavvi for having those big print runs (4k and more). Now while they are doing the opposite, they are still evil. And for the artwork: It's not like it hasn't been used before. If you don't like it there are other versions available.

[/SPOILER]

I don't know about enjoy? It looks like a 4 year has got hold of a Sharpie and a blank Steelbook. Thanks Zavvi for saving me some money.

The artwork in question is from the original comics that inspired the film. Anyone who knows Sin City would know that. So you are effectively slating the comic that is the whole REASON the film exists.

You don't like the art, fine, but the Sin City comic series is considered a classic and the black and white art style (with just splashes of colour) is a big part of the reason why. I'm confused why so many people hate this art - I can only assume they have Only seen the film and know nothing about the original comics.:dunno:

Hmm, not sure I agree with you on this. I'd be more than happy with the artwork if it was done well (as with the digipak I posted earlier in this thread) but this is fairly poorly executed.

Also, people are buying this film for the film, not because it is based on a comic book. Imagine they released a comic with film art splashed all over it, the uproar from fans of the comic would be insane
