No way is it sold out

I must admit I am quite cynical nowadays. Zavvi pull titles to create a hype, so when they make it live again people think they need to panic and buy if they were undecided
They are just manipulating the market - Pure and simple

They don't need to manipulate the market, these ultra limited titles are very popular. I think your mistaken in your belief that pulling titles early creates hype. 3:10 to Yuma sold out quickly but that thread is buried, no hype there. Hype is highest for these titles when the listing goes live. Therefore pulling listings early would harm sales since most pre-orders are placed in the first few days. In a few months many will have forgotten about this and spent their money elsewhere.

If anything pulling them early actually harms sales because most pre-orders are placed when the listing goes live.

These titles go "live" at least 3 times nowadays. This In Stock, Out of Stock cycle is continuous e.g. How many times has Aviator come back into stock...and it is still in stock, same as Pyjamas

In does create hype because people look at a title and see it is sold out, so they think Gee I may have to get this when cancellations etc come in as I might regret not getting one in future
On the whole this is a false economy as I have proven with analysis. Out of 99 Exclusives, only 32 are more expensive on eBay than when they were first released. Of those 32 only a handful in percentage terms are more than 50% more than the original price

This means if you purchased every single release on eBay rather than Zavvi you would have saved 200 Pounds

As I said I am just being cynical, but if you do not agree that is also fine :D - It is just an opinion ;)

Wow someone did his homework

How else should Zavvi handle cancellations? Amazon puts them back into the pool straight away which makes it difficult to grab a copy whereas at least you have a chance of getting one with Zavvi.

It would be great if Zavvi took payment separately like JSDVD, so in case you didn't like an item for whatever reason, or changed your mind, you could just not pay the shipping fee and ask them to cancel the order. I ordered this one but really wish I could see live pics before deciding to keep the order.

Then people will complain about charging upfront which is morally not right. It would be great if Zavvi charged correct amount for shipping as well. :naughty:

Did Mars Attacks come back? I've been waiting for it since I missed it on release day. I'm sure it's not come back yet. :/
No it hasn't come back yet but it will. Keep checking the Thread or just subscribe to it to find out when.

Not taking into account the shipping costs (for me to Germany). Otherwise you are right in many aspects.

Best wishes,

Michael

I might be wrong but I think the implication being made is that Zavvi falsely claim the item to be out of stock, when in reality only a percentage has been sold.

For instance, on a 2,000 print run, when 1,000 have been pre ordered then it's taken down. Then put back up a couple of weeks later briefly (maybe these are the true cancellations). Then put up again in the last few days coming up to release (more actual cancellations and any refused card sales). Then Zavvi are left with 1,000 copies for the eBay outlet, the Play outlet, any faulty returns and a few to stick on the website proper at a mark up.

personally i would rather they did it like amazon put back in the pool straight away, rather than x weeks away on x day at x time if you where to get that info in advance and actually be available to do so at that time.
also the way zavvi do it that creates piranha feeding making people who are not actually sure thinking they are missing out on something buying it when they might um and ahh if there was no pressure upon them they could miss out.
I have bought the odd one under those circumstances in the past then thought what have i done.
Also if goes back in the pool immediately those that want it can buy it the pressure becomes removed imho and people who truely want it becomes have a more general chance of getting it, which has to be better for everyone on a first come first severed basis.
putting cancellations back sooner has to be better for the retailer as to moving stock quicker and i'm sure 90% of businesses run on the same princples as amazon does no?
i know what i would rather have, it just seems zavvi seem to like zavvi ways but it makes sure they sell out, is it fair? well thats the question isn't it!
not in everyones view like mine in this case but i guess everyones different.

basil :movie:

Yeah, you have a point. To me it's not immoral. There are a lot of things that you have to put a deposit on before you receive a product, albeit, maybe not the full amount. There is always the return process too. If I didn't like Sin City after I received it, I could return it, but isn't it not a pretty process with Zavvi?

I love this movie and it will be my 4th version of it, but I wish we could get a an actual image uploaded on the site a day or two prior to the release, so we can decide if we want to cancel or not. Of course, if we are unsure, we can wait to it comes out for live pics. OH wait, 2k releases sell out well before release day, so forget that thought ;)

It's already been mentioned before with previous limited releases were its limited to 1000 or 2000 or 2500
Zavvi cancel bulk orders
They have done this with all of the previous limited ultra releases

You will see this back for sale in next few days or at a time Zavvi choose
If any bulk orders happened

You will also have cancelations due to credit/Debit cards and normal customer cancelations near release date or just after

When it's limited to 2000 it's always going to sell out fast
Sometimes this also happens due to bulk orders

Sin City is a very popular title and was always going to sell out fast in fact it took longer than I expected to sell out

I got my order in, surprised its sold out, it will inevitably come back.

Worst one was wreck it ralph like 3 months later, just after i gave in and bought it on ebay.

I love the artwork. I'm a fan of Frank Miller. But they do need to change it, if they want it as exclusively their own, since Yesasia.com has the same artwork for their in a Digipack version.

Well there goes any hope of them changing the art. I thought about pre ordering on the off-chance that they changed it. But in doing so it only helps convince them that the art is fine if they're getting pre orders. I guess I doesn't matter now.
