As pointless as it it is the remake wasn’t that bad BUT they changed the harrowing ending to a shittier less bleak ending

Wasn't the first film a gigantic critique of ignoring bad behaviour/evil and being too passive/tolerant, the remake removing those consequences would seem to undermine that point somewhat.
