Do you mean Relite stuff, or Manta/WeET? Relite is (or at least was for BR2049) exclusively an MP GB. Any other hosts obtained an allocation via them.

Manta and WeET, Wreck has said previously that he has had access to an allocation if he wanted it, but didn't have any appetite to facilitate it here last I asked.
Thanks Sam (I presume), indeed helpful and informative your post.
If all goes via MP, then in my view is all LOST and BAD, since that „general manager” (that „Masterblaster” aka John) feed me a lot of BS, took me out of GB „privileges”, then when I've argued with him while he stating all the time exactly that „Being the boss i get to set the rules (and change them if you get too close to guessing my age , LOL) , so lets see if you can "guess" my age in 2 tries ...” (just copied this phrase from his message), he reinstated „my GB privileges”, just to ultimately said he can't ship to my country anymore, since there is no other person in the country that participate in GB, and the cost is great, and bla-bla-bla-bla... that despite me being absolutely certain there is at least one other guy there with which I've spoken with many times, directly, and I think that guy is participating there even today.
In short my MP „experience” was VERY BAD (at least comparing with the one I always had here on HDN, thank you all, guys :thanks:),
ending up in me getting just one OC (Shazam) at a VERY HIGH price, that was close to the eBay prices.
Therefore, for me at least, that MP option is clearly a NON EXISTING possibility. :grumpy: :censored:

Well, I think I'll have to learn to live without even one more „exclusive”, just because of my place in the world („story of my life” sort of thing).:(

So sorry that @Wreck won't do any GB here, for Manta and WeET at least, I would certainly have a chance then...
But I surely and totally understand him if this is taking too much of his time or is somehow a problem/annoyance for him.
Despite me not writing here much, I do come every day, and have LOTS of time to spare. ;)

I can’t say my MP experience has been overly positive. I don't like the tiered membership setup, or the lack of transparency on GB total costs when you join, so they aren't my "go to", but I will use them for their BN/WP line of releases. EoT was decent, and AI looks really nice tbf.

He may change his mind at some point, but he didn't have the time to do them when I raised it last, which is fair enough with manta's constant flow of titles. I did offer to host them here myself, so the option is there if he wants to take me up on it.

I'd rather group buy Manta and WeEt here than elsewhere. Especially if it's a UK based GB. Wondering if you should put out a poll to gather site interest and put it to @Wreck again?

That's also if you yourself are still interested in hosting of course. :D

Yeah, I was happy enough to do it. I still would be, depending on the allocation size we're talking about. I can put a pole up it you like, can't guarantee that will sway wreck's mind though!

Do you have an idea on what minimum GB reserve numbers are required by Manta and WeET etc?

Reading the room on here in the last 18-24 months, I still believe that there's a decent number of collectors p*ssed that it's become much more difficult to secure direct via the premium sites these days, want an easier hook up and are willing to pay a fair percentage for the GB host to make it worth their while.

AFAIK it really depends on the retailer. Reserve figures can fluctuate wildly from host to host and release to release. It's a bit of a minefield tbh, but like I said, if they numbers are here, and the allocations are possible, I'd be happy enough to host.

Manta require consistency (as did FAC), particularly for titles not in demand. You need to first gain a conservative reserve allocation that you should sell for all releases, then reaching out to them for additional if needed (but not always possible).

WeET seem to be more inconsistent to the point that you have to review what allocation they're actually willing to give you for each release, particularly the more in demand ones. They also seem to match allocations for film series'. I.e TDK only got the same as BB, and Avengers only got the same as Ultron etc..

Consistency and titles in less demand are always where the issues become apparent.
I get it. It's the reason we see so many of the same movies across all these premium brands - easier to shift. It's totally fair on their part. Balancing costs Vs demand must be a nightmare and where often we lose on those interesting niche titles time after time.
It also works as a net negative too; each premium flooding the community with the same stuff year on year clearly alienates all those collectors not at all interested in buying every single one of those titles again, multiple times over.
"Collect everything" is one resolution that I swore I'd never follow and to this day I've stuck to that like glue, for the most part there's only a handful of movies I own three of four times. I don't think I'd change that mandate now.

Its certainly something to think about and weigh up if those are the requirements for places such as Manta.

Another GB will just make it even harder to buy direct

Surely thats for the producers to accommodate. I swear, in the years since 2020 with the enshitification of streaming quality and the ongoing inadequacies in regional internet infrastructure, more and more people are switching back to physical media each year. There seems to be way more collectors for these releases than even 2 years ago let alone 5.
The companies should increase their production numbers to accommodate. Shift the boundaries. The limited production numbers should move with the increase in overall community. Rather than get MORE limited than ever before by not increasing production numbers, those market metrics should stay balanced by increasing numbers with market demand. It will still be a limited collectable.

But if print runs are increased to make buying direct easier then what's the need for more GB's

I think you're on the losing side of this one :naughty:

I agree but we all know there are too many plonkers getting hold of editions to scalp on ebay. Recently this has sky rocketed. Whilst I appreciate there's probably GBs that facilitate this, the idea of having somewhat vetted Ninjas securing an allocation definitely feels better if it makes it harder for scalpers going direct. I'm just suprised Manta hasn't upped print numbers to meet the "demand" albeit some of it faux with the scalpers.

As we've seen before though it's not necessarily active Ninja's that use HDN GB's. There's some that contributed nothing to the forum and just used the GB's. So then the only way of vetting which Ninja's can use the GB's would be using post count like the old days but that then just invites spam posts which then needs policing etc

Getting major deja vu now, had these convo's years ago :rofl:

May I ask, what precisely makes an ninja „active”, please?

I mean I've already answered that haven't I. Post count i.e. actually contributing to the forum and not just using it for the GB's, at least that was the general consensus the last time these convo's were had

Yeah, but you also just said „spam posts” which clearly is not good for community and website.

And if I, for example, have little time usually, or don't find something to respond to most of the „i like it”, „don't like”, or other similar „very thoughtful” posts, and refrain from writing crappy posts (aka „spam posts”), what should I do to be considered „active” then, please?

I mean you know what I'm going to say don't you. If you can't/won't contribute to the forum and just want to use it for the GB's then you're exactly the type of person many had problems with in the past. Sorry but there's no other way to dress that up

Listen ultimately I don't give a sh!t, I've voted against HDN GB's because if I did care that would be my stance but this forum has gone to sh!t over the last year or so anyway due to a couple of factors and that aside I often find myself questioning why I even bother to buy most of the stuff I do that these companies release so while I know the minute you post one thing that can be quoted you open yourself up to multiple replies, leave me out of these long drawn out discussions because like I said I really don't give sh!t

Sure Tom, I understand all you said, and I also agree with most of it.
Yet, put yourself in my place, to not find it „attractive” to spend time sharing/writing rubbish on any forums (not just here on HDN), therefore, my „participation” on the forum MIGHT seem GB interest based, but I can assure you I'm interested in more than that, but can't say I find many places where I could develop a real discussion, and I mean DEEP and PROFOUND talk about MANY of the movies and series we can see, and, why not, about other stuff (like for example the greatness of the universe we live in and the smallness of us, despite the „center-of-the-world” attitude of many of us).

And as you said, ultimately, if I do happen to get on a GB for a so much desired edition of some of my most liked movies, I am glad and enjoy it thoroughly (I do open everything), and if not, I will sigh and swallow empty, and what else I could do than to move on. Like this I missed MANY editions from Manta Lab (Interstellar, Fifth Element, Leon, etc.) and the same would be for the Zavvi editions that I could not get since they decided to not ship to my country anymore.
In the end, I believe I will completely stop purchasing altogether (not going into how MANY dented and damaged SteelBooks I got from Amazon), cause I am already over capacity of my „library” for storing my movies and series on Blu-Ray. Then, will be one more free spot in the purchaser line. :p
