With all of these re-releases coming out on Steelbook and just about EVERY new movie coming out of Steelbook these days, it seems Steelbook releases are no fun anymore to collect.

I used to be able to preorder the 1 or 2 steelbooks that are released each month but now that almost every movie is coming out on Steelbook I am not enjoying it anymore.

I just found out about the Batman Series coming to steelbook in the UK and then I seen that The Dark Knight Rises is being released ALREADY.

So there are 2 reasons I am stopping.

1 - Too expensive

2 - Too many releases and re-releases

I will now only collect Steelbooks of movies I love. It's a sad day. I can see that Steelbook releases will soon overtake Amaray releases each week.

I guess it all depends on what you want to get out of the hobby really. I know exactly where a lot of you guys are coming from as I used to collect vintage toys and had to have everything I could afford (which was a lot a few years ago).

Now that I'm buying steelbooks, I'm not fussed about collecting everything or making money on them, as I can't afford to buy everything. I just want the best looking copy available of movies I like and to build a little library and watch them all. So while I do feel for the collectors, it's also good for me to be able to build a cracking little movie library.

I only ever bought movies i liked anyway, so it's not an issue for me tbh...I'm not interested in selling them on down the line...

Steelbooks are becoming commonplace, you only have to look at the number of new and re-releases to see that.

It won't be long before the collectible part is severely hampered or disappears almost entirely.

I don't mean to sound like a downer but I feel the future will see steelbooks as disposable items.

I would buy what I would like and forget about value because it will probably end up like the folks who bought all the special editions or VHS/DVD/blu-ray stuff back in the day that doesn't amount to much in terms of being collectible today.

I've changed my collecting ways as a result of the re-releasing and mass production of steelbooks. I'm getting rid of the majority of my sealed ones while they still hold value and starting a smaller, more disciplined, open steelbook collection.

I don't ever see myself quitting the steelbook community completely; they're just too nice and it's a fun and interactive way to collect films. However, I'm done with worrying about the value of steels. (Other than IB FS. It's my baby and I'll cry if it ever gets re-released!!)

I personally really like the steelbooks for the unique art, if there's a limited run (like Zavvi's release of Taxi Driver with 4000 copies) that's an added bonus, but I still won't pay more than $40-$50 for a steelbook.

For me it seems that Steelbooks are beginning to become the new amaray. In my eyes the novelty of collecting them is wearing off. I never got into collecting them as an investment and I open and watch all of mine. I think I'm getting to a point where if a movie doesn't crack my all time top 25 it's not worth getting in Steelbook form. Over the past 6 months I have only bought a handful of Steelbooks even though they are being produced at a record pace. That being the case my time spent on HDN hasn't decreased.
