According to various sources these will contain the old Bluray releases with maybe even less bonus content.
So it's too expensive for me to pay 215 EUR only for the steelbook packages.
Besides, I doubt that they will continue this style with Star Trek (2009), Start Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond later.

So I'll pass, even if they look quite nice.

The spine design is centralised, so there's no chance that the 2009 series will be included later, unless it throws everything off.

Oddly, 'The Director's Cut' is being advertised on the front of The Motion Picture, but whether it really is or just a mock-up error remains to be seen.

Looks like it could be a lovely set if full gloss - less lovely if not - but that price is a real stinker and after looking at the image of the set elsewhere without the price listed before I came here had my fingers crossed for just under 100 quid for the whole set of 10 and I feel it's a real shame about the high price of 17 quid apiece but accept it's just carrying on from other high priced sets such as the recent six STAR
WARS steels and the nine SPECTRE related Bond Zavvi films - clearly people are buying these at the listed prices or else would have surely been reduced by now . . .
Alas, could be waiting months for "sensible" pricing on these and incidentally still waiting for decent prices on five of the Star Wars and eight of the nine Bonds over six months later . . .).

Re: Anniversary design on the 10 spines - or indeed any design carrying over from one to the other across the set: Yes, seen that before, though only on one other set of steelbooks - GAME OF THRONES 1-4 with the design incomplete at this time waiting for Seasons 5 & 6 to complete.
Smart move by the designers to have a continuing design on the spine of the set as all must be bought - or none - otherwise the spines will look a bit strange on display and will not matchup.

We've certainly had a few re-packages of this 10 film collection here in the U.K. alone since 2009 - whether in ten-in-one packaging or six-in-one + four-in-one packaging - and it's got to be at least five different collections to date.

As a big fan of the TV series - and of the original cast - and one of the few series' I remember from my childhood (remember feeling more than a little sad when packing my stuff in 1999 - when the family home I grew up in was sold - that I could only find one of my set of Star Trek cards that I remember collecting with bubblegum) and as a fan I'd usually say milk it/pimp it out for all it's worth but in this case my opinion is that they've gone OTT with the pricing and with nothing new added that I can see in this so-called aniversary set to differentiate it from any previous set since 2009 - as in no Director's Cuts / Extended Cuts / new Extras - I'll be giving these a miss at pre-order and will be sticking with the sets I already have.

50TH ANNIVERSARY this year of the 1966 original show and I accept that the only reason for a 50th Anniversary tag on these films - the earliest of which was made in 1979 if I remember correctly - is surely more to do with this being the 50th Anniversary of the original series/original crew and as a tribute to the few survivors - out of the ten major players only four are still with us - and for the 50th anniversary of the show it would be cool to see steelbooks here in the U.K. for that collection - and, why not, as THE NEXT GEN complete Seasons 1 - 7 collection has a very smart, albeit jumbo, steelbook set, from Germany I think, with design of cast members on the spines carrying over one to the other. Nowadays the packaging could be regular-sized steelbook cases with stacked discs instead of the unloved jumbos.

I believe this will be the first time anywhere that the original crew will be in steelbooks (films not series) - apart from the U.S./Canada Best Buy exclusive of STAR TREK 2: THE WRATH OF KHAN recently available across the pond.

you say that but compared to Zavvis Breaking Bad set of 6 steel-books this is a bargain with the 10% off they work out around £15 each which is a good price especially with poster artwork.

....zavvis breaking bad were £19.99 to £21.99 each it kept changing the they sold them as a set for £99

in any case i ordered with 10% off so will wait to see if Amazon.co.uk does better price :)

Breaking Bad went as low as £44.99

These will drop a lot over time, the price for the lot puts this out of many peoples reach just like Breaking Bad did at first.

after a year and a half and that was due to bad sales and trying to shift old stock.

they sold a lot of the left over stock to 3rd party international Amazon sellers as well.

some how i think star trek will do better trade numbers, no matter the inside or back artwork, just like the fast n furious steel-books did

Odd thing to do to reduce them people are actually buying them full price but £13.50 each is bit cheaper now for new steelbooks

Its cool that this has finally happened.... ST is such an important series... but very disappointed that all the films are not remastered :(

Also same inside art and back art suck ballz.... smacks of laziness... and the gold border and spine art thing is nothin but an unnecessary gimmick. (n)

Content,
Artwork,
& Finishing....

these are what they should of focused on (like any steel really) and aside from the front artwork, which is the only thing done right here, the set is pure disappointment... especially as i'm sure the finishing will be a plain matte affair (as usual) :squint:

Cheaply done, so really the price should match, no? ....£9.99 each (at best) shld been the price, or £100 for the set before some sort of discount to reward those lookin to buy 'em all in one go.

Still i like the ST franchise enough to salvage what i can from this half-hearted release....Think what ima gonna do personally is pick up a couple from the set when the price drops and work my own multi-disc collection magic :artist:

The artwork is really nice, shame about the price. They need to drop the price. Got the bluray box set not long ago with all ten films for just over £25 brand new. If they drop to around the 10 quid mark, I'm in.
Agreed. They will have a price drop eventually. (Remember how drastically the steelbooks for Breaking Bad eventually dropped?)
I want to get them. It is the 50th Anniversary...but these are still catalog titles with nothing new. So it doesn't warrant the price (beyond the idea of the 50th Anniversary tag and steelbook).

I have pre-ordered for now, even £13.40 per steel is expensive considering there are exactly the same discs as I got with the normal stardate collection boxset. I'll decide closer to the release date if I will keep or cancel and hold off for a price drop.

I'm not in a rush to pre order
I'll will order after release date

I can see these ending up with a price drop after release date especially with Zavvi

I will order a few at different stages
I'm not ordering all 10 in one go
I also want to wait till I see in hand photos and video unboxings

As a 50th Anniversary collection of films with an iconic cast these steels are bound to pop up all over Europe like a rash in the near future and, yes, GBP 149.99 (GBP 134.50) for the set is miles better than the original pre-order price of GBP 169.99  but by "sensible pricing" I mean under 100 quid.

No idea if "our" set will appear in the U.S. and Canada where WRATH OF KHAN has recently been released as a Best Buy exclusive with the same poster image as the Zavvi but with different title treatment as can be see here and no idea if they will be getting the other nine in the same style:-
BEST BUY ZAVVI

Some titbits of information:
- 10% off code still works as of 10PM.
- Available from Zoom for GBP 15 each and there's usually a 10% code there too though can't comment about their packaging as never bought anything from them.
- 9 of the10 films same transfers as in previous edition sets with only WRATH OF KHAN re-mastered.
- According to the Commentaries on the Zoom listing for these the following also include the Director's Cuts as well as the Theatrical Cuts apart from #2 WRATH OF KHAN = #3 SEARCH FOR SPOCK and #4 VOYAGE HOME.
- However, I prefer to believe the BR.com listing with WRATH OF KHAN the only one with 1 Movie, 2 Cuts.
- Some contain "over 2 hours of previously released content" with others "over 3 hours . . . "

Liking the gold detailing for the 50TH Anniversary - 1966 - 2016 - and for only the second time we have gold used for the right anniversary (other being the GOLDFINGER steelbook 1964 - 2014) unlike the Zavvi exclusive WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT which elicited some adverse comments when the colour was used in celebration of Zavvi's two years in the steelbook game . . .

Hoping that the 50th Anniversary print on the front is confined to the j-cards as it's already on the spines when seen as a collection and nicely done too, almost perfectly symmetrical.

Thanks!
It should also be mentioned that there is no way that the steelbook of ST:TMP can be the Director's Cut in HD.
It is well known that all the new elements for that cut were rendered in 480p standard definition.
Maybe they did a bastardized hybrid with the HD Theatrical and upconverted DC footage? I don't know. But I am sure that we would have heard the news had Paramount ponied up the money to have them re-render that footage.

Cancelled and reordered with 10% off.

Am I the only one that doesn't really mind the gold border? I mean, it doesn't look the worst in the world and you had to expect something given that this is the 50th Anniversary.
