Don't matter is the image is poster art or any art, if it hasn't been used on a steel then it's classed as WEA :wacky:

I think everyone wants the official poster art on a Star Wars steel, shame it's on the back for the other 6 but still good IMO that it's on the steels

I would however like to see those Olly Moss or Dan Mumford art works on them one day too (or slips)

Is that ''course 101'' on what is a WEA Steelbook ?

Oh, and you do think as well that everyone wants the official poster on the steel ?

you sure do seem to know a lot of things

I was being sarcastic ! Your post sounds like a mister know it all.

That's why 99% (or "not always").

I think iconic poster art, like Star Wars and Back to The Future for instance work well as steelbook art. However look at Thor and Captain America The First Avenger (Hmv releases), they were not poster art but are close to steelbook perfection.

For the record I like poster art and fan made and pop art etc and much more as long as it looks good but with Star Wars you can never go wrong with the official posters

with an ''ego'' like this, do you fit through doors ? :p

He IS right though. Star Wars fans weren't happy with the individual steelbooks released for the 6 films. The vast majority of Star Wars fans more than any other film/franchise fanbase want the iconic poster art on the front and complained on mass across the Star Wars sites at the terrible releases we keep getting. To add insult they put the poster art on the back of those terrible releases.

Not every poster would make a good steelbook, but the posters that would "should" be used over pop art, or arty farty designs that are poorly done like that damn cassette.

You only have to look at the mock designs by @Noodles etc over the years on here and read the feedback section to see poster art is 99% of the time a much better option than what we often get. Its not lazy as retailers dont get a say, bottom line is they can ask and sometimes might get their way as they have on this and Rogue One, but final say goes to the studio and they are a nightmare to deal with, I know as I used to work for one of them.

@Flloydo is 100% correct. I've been a Star Wars fan since 77 and active across their sites and if you ask the vast majority what they want, the answer will always be the same. Full gloss steels with the original poster art for each film. Whether the amaray features that art is completely irrelevant, and not comparable to a well finished steel even if the art is the same.

They were poster art. The artwork was used on the teaser posters

True but they are not the main official posters , which were used on all the amaray releases and posters in the cinema.

They are official posters as they are teaser posters. Poster designs can vary worldwide. The artwork on the steelbook was not exclusive artwork designed for it specifically as I've just shown.

I know they release plenty of promo posters, but there is normally a main official one, like the Struzman drawn Star Wars one that blufans are using. There were many other promo posters like all the faces of the main cast, of which were not the main poster art work.

With regards to Thor, I realise the Art is taken from promotional images/ teaser posters (as do most steelbooks), but the main movie poster was used on the Amaray release, along with the Zavvi re-release. The Hmv artwork was reserved for that steelbook, in regards to home disk release.

For me I feel a little bit disappointed if a steelbook release is exactly the same as the amaray or DVD artwork.

Very minor correction--the main Force Awakens theatrical poster was designed by Bryan Morton, not Drew Struzan. Drew did a Force Awakens poster before the movie's release that is (in my opinion) not anything special. I think it was shown at a Comic Con, but nothing was done with it in the official marketing campaign.
