Steelbook Collection Valuations

Hi All

I'm new to this forum and looking for a bit of advice. Apologies if this topic is already covered elsewhere but I cant seem to find anything similar enough.

I have been collecting steelbooks for a couple of years now, and have a collection of about 200. I have just built it up gradually, not having loads of money to throw at it. I have got to the point now though where I am considering selling my collection, as it is far too time consuming and expensive trying to build up my collection, and being the obsessive kind I find there are lots of films I would like in my collection that are not currently available in steelbook format, and it looks like they probably never will be. So I end up with a mix of steels and normal blu rays which I dont really want.

I would be grateful for any info anyone can provide on the best places to sell collections. I am also trying to get a rough idea of what kind of prices I can get for my steelbooks. (I'm just trying to recoup as much as I can really, not to make a killing). Is it better to just sell individually? or can you get a fair amount for bundles?

First of all, welcome to HDN. Have fun!
If you're simply trying to sell, then your first destination should be HDN. There's lots of collectors looking for a steelbook here. There's even a dedicated thread for that. But first, I recommend getting yourself familiarized with the website. Learn the do's and don'ts. And then post what you have and how much you're looking for. If you're simply trying to get rid of everything quick and don't care about the price then sell it as a lot, if not better to list them individually.
And then there are all the other websites that cater to collectors. HDN is the most famous btw
And lastly, you can always auction them on eBay.

Common steels your better just bundling for the ease factor. More rare or desirable steels would be better suited for indivisual sale. Spend a week on ebay checking prices it will give you a good market value for current steels.

As sirdizzy said for standard titles you should probably bundle them together. If a steelbook is OOP you should sell that separately as it will be worth more. Prices are falling on ebay but it will give you an idea of current values. You can also post here if you want a valuation on a rare Steelbook. There are lots of helpful members here who have good knowledge on current prices. Once you get to 20 posts you will have access to the trading section. You can create a sales thread there and sell to other members.

Hi All.
Thanks for the replies. It has been a bit of a mad week or two so I had to put the steelbook thing on the back burned. I am looking on ebay for prices. Selling on ebay can be a bit time consuming but if I have to do it that way then so be it. I would like to have a good idea that I will be able to recoup a reasonable amount before I start selling, which is why I have popped in for some advice.

Anyways I have attached a list of what I have as a PDF doc. Hope it reads ok. The number for "condition" is a 1-5 rating of what kind of state I think the steelbook is in. 1 = Excellent as new and 5 = very poor. I've also included an explanation of what state any accompanying cards are in. Most cards I have trimmed so that they slide into the plastic grips on the inside of the cases. (This is mostly for cards that were glued to the back and too big to fit into the case). Some came as sleeves/bands (like slipcases for CDs). Others had none at all, or the text was actually printed on the back of the steelbook.

If you know anyone who is after any of these items please feel free to pass on. I'm not sure how many of these are ultra rare, and how many are pretty common, I guess there is a mix of everything. Happy hunting
