Warner UK decided to get more steelbooks done due to how well it sold

It was a film studio decision not Zavvi who decided this

This is good as a lot missed out getting this as it was a release clearly under estimated as to the demand
1,000 UK print run was way to low

You don't need to pay crazy overpriced ebay price:p :D
Bait and Switch is actually illegal in the UK. If this was reported they would be prosecuted under consumer law. Fact.

My desire to own this has just ended instantly.

How did you find this information out?

i missed out first time around. i want one.

but it does go to show that limited edition means nothing. its only limited to the demand

all it takes is the press of a button to print another 1000

This is hardly a case of bait-and-switch.

Also, I never understood people who take pleasure in knowing that other people don't have something that they have.

Just watch - the new batch will get the colors correct, and the buyers of the original run will be stuck with the sub par ones!

they wouldnt risk the return of hundreds of steels for the corrected ones

they will reprint the same steel even though everyone in the universe knows the finish is bad

Very happy to get a chance to pick this up later today as it stinks the way it was unceremoniously put on sale with hardly any warning and during the week when many were at work not over a week-end

Fair warning should be given especially if the steelbook is limited to 1,000 !

Certainly not the first time a reprint has happened and the most recent infamous example is probably THE BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY steelbook . . . infamous because it was "Limited to 1,000", sold out and "another 1,000" were released into the wild considerably cheaper too (still available today and now for 25 quid).
This one is different in that it won't be any cheaper than it was when people ordered it originally and will give those like myself, who were caught off guard by the release, the opportunity to pick up a copy.

Can't imagine that anyone would begrudge me and others like me the chance to add this title to the collection and anyway 1,000 copies was madness, 2,000 copies is probably OK and 4,000 is OTT (IMO).

I don't know if people "take pleasure in knowing that other people don't have something that they don't have." Let's face it, the movie is available in an amaray case anyway, which isn't limited as far as i know, so if anyone wants the movie it's there to buy. Limited edition releases tend to be more "collectable" and generally appeal to more hardcore movie enthusiasts, and are generally produced in lesser numbers, making them rarer. MAYBE there is that senitment involved but i don't think it's meant with any mean-ness. I think it's more of having something that is rarer and, therefore, a bit or alot more special than the average release - the more "limited" something is then, for me, the more special that product is. Of course, in the case of limited edition movie releases then the "Limited" mantle means that the product is rarer - i like that. I LIKE having special limited edition, deluxe edition, special collectors edition, etc, of my favourite movies that have some rarity attatched to them - be it because they were produced in small numbers or whatever. I've had this topic before with others who think there's some elitism attatched to the collector mentality - maybe there is..........a bit. That doesn't bother me. But if i see a forum where people have missed out on a really limited release that they really wanted, and that i have bagged a copy of, then i personally don't feel good about that, for them - i feel for them, even though i got a copy myself. BUT this is the game we are in. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. I've missed plenty, so i try to keep my eye on the ball as much as possible.
But in the case of this release, for me it's another example of limited edition collectability being undermined - regardless of who gives the go ahead for the reprint. Yeah, the so called 1000 print run was very low, but there have been others with a 1000 print run - albeit they didn't sell like this baby! It's just another nail in the coffin for my collecting, it's really, really losing its excitement. I might as well buy the the amarays when they go for sale prices or 2nd hand, and save a whole lot of money in the process.

Owning something that others don't have gives you a buzz. I mean what fun would it be if everyone owns the same thing?

For everyone who wants a shorter two sentence version refer to my reply lol

But how does it effect your enjoyment of it, if someone else has one?
There is an elitist element to it. And I speak as someone who does have some of those.
I personally don't care if every man woman and child has the same ones I do.

Oh I agree, that's why I'm losing interest if everything just keeps getting reprinted so often regardless if I missed out or not.
The only thing that irritates me, is when I believe something is limited and I end up paying MORE than the people who get the next batch. THAT bothers me!
(Example: Zavvi titles that are listed as Ultra Limited, and are now 1/2 the price a year later because they made more).

Because something that is limited makes it more 'rare and collectible'. If every person owns it that defeats the purpose of what defines a limited edition.
