But the point is why make a big point of doing a 4k or 8k or ************ k scan when you're only going to do a blu-ray? You might as well go the whole hog and do a 4k release as well.
Film restoration and home video format resolution are completly different things

It's purpose is to improve the picture quality and fix errors that have developed over time on the negative and preserve the film

Just becsuse a film has been restored with a 4K or 8K scan it don't mean it needs to be released in 4K video or get a UHD release

4K UHD is still a niche market with tiny sales compared to Blu-ray or DVD

What's important is the film restoration process itself

Not all UHD releases have had 4K or 8K film restoration scans done a lot have been just 2K video upscaled to 4K as in not real 4K

Yes later when 4K is more mainstream in homes with sales of UHD to match then films that have had 4K or 8K restorations scans done these are available for later UHD releases
It also means films restored with 4K or 8K scans can be made available for streaming in 4K

I do think classic old films should get the 4k blu-ray treatment. Not all but selected titles or you end up with a format that is the preserve of basically modern films. Selected titles done well would certainly allow older films to shine. Ben Hur anyone?. Look at Bridge over the River Kwai, the benchmark of the format as far as I'm concerned.
