+1.

People criticize UK retailers if they price 3D / 2D Steelbooks above 25 but don't care when Asian retailers charge 1.5 or double the price. I know they throw an extra slip but to many except the hardcore collectors the slips doesn't matter.

I still pre-ordered this as this seems to be the best version of Tangled though in the corner of my heart I still prefer the look & design of the Mexican Steelbook though it is G1 sized.

I do not think these Kimchi releases are that expensive!
$44,99 exchanged to Euro is about 33,32 and to UK Pounds is about 28,07 (before shipping of course!).
Ok, these are catalogue titles and not new releases, but think they are done right!
And with the Kimchi releases we get all details/infos before the Steelbooks get shipped, so we can still decide if we are happy with the product and the price we are paying!

But would not mind them beeing cheaper in the Future ;)

I don't like the prices either, and I didn't want to jump on these releases really, but with the disappointing Little Mermaid release (both finish and artwork) I just don't know what's coming next from Zavvi.

With this and Monsters Inc, we already know from these advanced pictures that these are premium releases, and as I've amended my collecting habits recently to quality over quantity, hopefully I won't be spending any more money overall.

:yeahthat:

Even for me it's Quality over Quantity! It's better to pay a little higher once for a High Quality release than to pay a cheap price for every other low quality Crapavvi, Shitazon, etc. release

Now I don't even bother with every other steelbook. Just because these retailers are pumping them out doesn't mean that you are supposed to buy each one of them. One has to be rational. It's either my favorite and high quality steels or nothing and believe me I end up spending less

P.S. A book called "Predictably Irrational" might help some people here in understanding the concept.

so well said Jimmy, I concur.

Your comparison is wrong. It is known that Zavvi's pricing of Disney Steels is very high.

I was comparing the pricing of 3D / 2D Steelbooks released / to-be-released in the UK like Prometheus, Star Trek Into Darkness, Pacific Rim etc. Vs. the pricing of the same Steelbooks in Asia.

Also you forgot to add postage which is 1 Vs. 7 GBP. Uk is the best when it comes to cheap shipping.

What is wrong about it? My comparison had nothing to do with your comment bud.

The only thing that might be slightly "wrong", if you want to call it that, is that I used Kimchi's promo price but Zavvi's set price. Using Zavvi's promo price (meaning the price to be had using a code) would have been £21, which is what I got mine for (and now wish I hadn't).

So change "For £5 more" to "For £7 more".

Everything else still applies.

I can understand the difference in pricing pal. There are exceptions in terms of inclusion of goodies and 3D disc making it a complete package but in general pricing of Asian Steels are double or triple the UK price.

Regarding, Full product detail disclosure long before release this is happening only now as Korea has been notorious when it comes to letting people know how the Steelbook/slip looks like.

lol you just ignored the 10 gbp shipping costs + possible tax

:D7I wish the price be no more than 40 $ (39.99) :) and bigger gap between release dates for exclusives. :) thats mine Christmas and New year wishes (bit lucky because i don't really have need for #5 ):D

Exactly. Le Grand Bleu cost me £38.99. Then you've potentially got customs to deal with as you say. Zavvi's exclusives aren't bad (I think some collectors forget the days when a clean Steelbook and embossing were rare), they aren't perfect but they are better than anything anyone except Blufans and Kimchi are producing and naturally prices reflect the increase in quality. Personally I don't think it is worth the extra money.

wfrr is better than anything blufans or kimchi ever created.. aladdin and junglebook arent exactly worse either..

there are plenty of playcom steelbooks which are superior as well and those sold for even less

in the end they are all manufactured by scanavo and the options in terms of steelbook quality are rather limited i suppose..

Well, just to add to the prices discussion, Choi has explained in some other thread how the Asian market and Kimchi work, among other things.
In a nutshell, there are very few potential buyers in Asia, compared to Europe, and Kimchi is not as big as the big retailers around the world.

Yah for those that may not be willing to pony up more coin, I can understand. It is difficult to keep up with everything. At the end of the day, we really are all on the same team. We all want quality collectible steels at reasonable prices so that we can carry on with our obsessions. :scat:

Its not only a £5 difference jimmyv, this is pre postage. Zavvis postage is free for us, but postage on these is insane to say the least. Unless you want to risk loss in the mail, then its $23 / £14.50 on top of the £28.

£23 zavvi or £42.50 kimchi.

Dont get me wrong, these releases are really nice, but not almost double the total rip off price of zavvi.

Man this is killing me. I want it bad but I just went on a spree after joining this site.(I was mostly limited to Canadian and some amazon.uk items) and now I have ordered nearly 20 movies which, since they are after market, are costing me a fortune lol.
