Don't know about 'objectively best' roles, but my personal favorites are all but 1 from the last 30 years:
Ronin, Heat, Score, Midnight Run, Bronx Tale, 15 Minutes and Jackie Brown!
That's definitely about me, because he's acting like an asshole child with both Down and Tourette syndromes.
But no kind of behavior can detract from his amazing career, and if I was to 'hate' all the 'liberal' actors, I'd only be left with James Woods, Jim Caviezel, and Jon Voight.

You managed to sit through ‘15 Minutes’ but have never watched ‘Jaws’?
‘Midnight Run’ and ‘A Bronx Tale’ (just) are both over 30 years old now though and ‘Heat’ will be there next year. Time’s flying, man.
DeNiro is simply a great actor, he is brilliant in lot of films, he acts always the same, Im not sure why EXACTLY in Taxi Driver it should be his best performance 
but he is great in it of course. For me his best roles are in Casino/Goodfellas, mobsters just fits for him the best! But his performance is nothing less in OUATIA, A Bronx Tale, Heat, King of Comedy, Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter, Cape Fear and many more. He´s great actor.
