Per Screen Rant:

Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that he is making a comic book movie and has been approached to star in ‘Terminator 5′, as well as remakes of ‘Predator’ and ‘The Running Man’.

Fans of 1980s/90s action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger have been eagerly awaiting to hear what his next role will be, now that he’s officially returned to acting and retired from politics. There have been rumblings about Terminator 5 for a few weeks now, and Schwarzenegger’s all-too-brief cameo last year in The Expendables set him up for a potentially larger role in the sequel.

Now the former Mr. Olympia (and California governor) has revealed that Terminator isn’t the only ’80s sci-fi/action franchise of his that he’s been approached to revisit – and that a starring role in a comic book movie is on the agenda now as well.

TheArnoldFans were naturally in attendance at the 2011 Arnold Classic this past weekend, where the 63-year-old Schwarzenegger mentioned that he’s received somewhere around fifteen different scripts from studios – including “obvious ones from ‘The Terminator’ to remakes of ‘Predator’ and ‘The Running Man’ and all of those things.”

Schwarzenegger went on to mention that he’s also considering “a lot of original stuff too [and] a comic book character [movie] right now.” He offered no hints as to what those projects might be, but promised that he would make an official announcement about his return to the comic book genre over the next four weeks or so.

Obviously, the Batman & Robin jokes write themselves whenever Schwarzenegger starts talking about comic book movies. However, superhero flicks are as much the rage now as mindless action pics were back in Arnold’s heyday, and it’s not shocking to hear that he’s interested in joining that game. There’s plenty in the way of graphic novel material that doesn’t involve super-powered heroes in eye-catching costumes – so don’t count on seeing Arnold play a masked vigilante anytime soon.

This is also the first concrete word about remakes of either Predator or The Running Man actually being “in development” and not merely rumored. Some fans might cheer the idea of Schwarzenegger revisiting these titles, but I’m betting most people would consider the idea blasphemy or just plain uninteresting – and the same goes for another Terminator movie. On the other hand, money talks in Hollywood, and if studio heads think they can convince Schwarzenegger to sign up for another battle involving hunter aliens or a Battle Royale-style showdown, they’ll go for it.

Will Schwarzenegger revisit 'Predator' and 'The Running Man'?

Chances are good that Schwarzenegger will pass on any prospective remakes/reboots of his previous films, and will instead move forward with other projects like The Expendables 2 and his comic book flick. He also seems fairly non-committed to the idea of another Terminator movie (“seems” is the key word there), which, if you recall, was not the case with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Perhaps Arnold will just move on to trying some original material and not attempt to profit off the good will built towards his older starring vehicles.

That said – do you want to see Schwarzenegger revisit Terminator, Predator, or The Running Man franchise? And what comic book character would the actor be a good fit to play onscreen?

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back on the big screen as a leading man, but now it appears he'll finally reprise his most famous role.

The actor has revealed that he will appear in the next "Terminator" film, being developed by by producer David Ellison, although there's been no official confirmation as of yet.

The former California governor revealed the news during a London press conference "The Last Stand," reports Bleeding Cool.

The film's producers recently hired a pair of writers to pen the script. "Avatar" co-producer Laeta Kalogridis and "Drive Angry" scribe Patrick Lussier will team for the screenplay, although it's unknown if it will revolve around the Connor family like the previous installments. Likewise, it's not known how Schwarzenegger's age will be dealt with in the film, seeing as how the terminator is an ageless machine in the other films.

Schwarzenegger starred as the killer cyborg in James Cameron's 1984 "The Terminator," before being reprogrammed for good in the 1991 "Terminator 2: Judgement Day." Cameron exited the series, and it took more than a decade for "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" (2003) to come out. Schwarzenegger then sat out 2009's "Terminator Salvation."

"The Last Stand," Schwarzenegger's first leading role in ten years, has so far struggled at the U.S. box office.

They could do it in three ways.....

1. Have Arnold as Sargeant Candy (from T3) being used as the main model for the T-800

2. Have Arnold as an 'older' Terminator to pass as more of a human

3. Use CGI a la 'Benjamin Button' and just make him look younger

In a perfect world I'd hope for number 3 and make an awesome Terminator movie...... I reckon they'll go with number 1

Can't wait really.

Was and always will be a Terminator fan. I hope this upcoming film will be better than the Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - I didn't quite like that one.

Since Alien has all but abandoned the Predator franchise a TERMINATOR VS PREDATOR would be awesome! Predators could come to the planet after 'Judgement Day' Or maybe just a Predator cameo would suit me :p

that would be cool, but the Terminators opponent has already been determined...

I would assume he would play the master mold, just the guy the machines used as a model. I would prefer to see him return as some old spectacled dude rather than dressed in a leather jacket and sunglasses (as was already pushing that look in T3).

If Arnold returns to any of his old franchises, I only see him playing a bad-ass for the Conan film, not Terminator or Predator.

cant wait i love terminator just hope they dont mess it up 3 was a story that needed to be ttold and i liked 4 i hope in 5 and 6 they make the whole thing come full circle as my take on it is john is only this leader cus he knew what was coming and was ready for it so id like to see that he is the one that sent back kyle and the terminator in the 1st film as he knew it was the only way to know what was coming to get trained via sarah yes sending his father to die. But theres also the point that the machines sent back the 1st terminator as to speed along the building of the terminators via the arm

Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Terminator Role

While things have been relatively quiet on the Terminator news front since January, when Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis scored the job of writing the fifth instalment and Arnold Schwarzenegger used his trip to London as an excuse to keep pimping his involvement in the franchise, plenty has been happening behind the scenes. Word broke earlier this week that Paramount was in talks to make and distribute the new film and now here’s Arnie again chatting about his likely role.

"I'm very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January,” he said, letting slip two very relevant pieces of intel about the film that, at the time of writing have yet to be confirmed officially by brother-sister producing team Megan and David Ellison.

For Arnie to return as the Terminator would most likely require some narrative quickstepping to explain his aged appearance or – much more likely – go the performance capture route as with Terminator Salvation.

Nothing has leaked yet about the direction this new outing will take, but if it really does start the cameras rolling next year, what do you think might happen with everyone’s favourite cyborg? And before anything can happen in terms of production, the film will need a director. Can an announcement about that be far off? Time will tell if this is all actual forward momentum and not just Arnie keeping the fan flames stoked…
