I will not derail the thread too much, but I have to agree, the mentioning of FA is a bit repetitive - and I am far from being a fan of Zavvi - they are just abysmal.

It's because of this IMO, that FA are taking advantage (business is business) by creating slips and added extras.

Problem is, Zavvi are flooding the steelbook market and so now in turn, FA are flooding the slipcover market at the same rate.

Two cash cows nibbling at the same patch of grass ;)

people arent slating zavvi for the steels, what is happening another retailer is taking these steels and creating a better package with many extras and creating a better package, but not every steel from fa is done in this way.

so people are doing the obvious thing pre-ordering with zavvi to make sure they have a copy secured and then minute the better package is coming along then cancelling zavvi one and getting the better version in there eyes for the price.

to change everyone saying these repeat posts is zavvi need to step upto the plate with better offerings and not force people either to buy a zbox either with certain steels first in the pre-order stage, that has really pissed alot of people off in the past.

now this may not be what people here want to keep hearing post after post but its not really going to change until zavvi either step upto the plate with better product or they start getting more wea, which is highly unlikely on the latter.

also one side effect which zavvi fanboys should be greatful for, if loads people or then drop them price drops will come quicker as they not selling them fast as they used to. it really becomes win win in the end for the buyers/collectors.

now people will buy/cut there cloth to what they want, the rest will be upto zavvi imho.
its upto them to change the game and either improve or lose its not rocket science.

you only have to look in gb section to see whats been happening for a while now!
and its nice for a bit of proper competion for a change, its been a long time coming.

basil
I think the point people are making , fa are getting spoken about in zavvi threads , I'm surprised a mod hasn't commented yet on sticking to the thread subject

The problem is that almost half of the posts in this thread are Film Arena related. It isn't just this thread either, it is the same whenever a new title is announced.
That's not going to go away. Finally a European retailer has entered the market offering the same steels as Zavvi with the extras associated till now only with Asian releases. Therefore quite badly hurting a company already disliked by the vast majority of collectors. Zavvi are flooding the market with tat they can't shift, where as FA have picked titles they know in their market will sell out. Add to that they have started doing WEA "John Wick" and it's game set and match.

Yes this title is coming out, but over half the orders will be lost on this title as except for a few Zavvi die hard fans the rest will want better packages. So everytime a major title within certain genre's are announced attention will immediately turn to questions relating to an FA version in all those threads and that's here to stay unless Zavvi up their game.

Yes I have ordered this and yes it will be immediately cancelled the second FA announce theirs. That needs to be mentioned in every Zavvi titles thread again and again as they read these forums and need to get into their heads that as the UKs primary domestic supplier they are no longer good enough. US/CAN have Mondo, Europe now has FA. Only titles Zavvi will see sell well now are the ones exclusive to them and that's a small amount.

I understand what you're saying - competition is good for a market especially when it's become practically a monopoly for one company and that company doesn't appear to appreciate their own customers. The tales of Zavvi's inadequacies are well documented and are quite lamentable.

But I've had to 'unwatch' quite a few of the Zavvi threads here as most of the replies are along the lines of "I'm not buying this, I'll get the Film Arena one". I do read many of the Film Arena threads and enjoy them but I don't expect to be almost forced to read about their releases in a multitude of other threads. I'm not trying to be offensive or anything like that but it is becoming quite predictable to the point of it being boring now.

For me, it's all down to price.

I'm sure FA will come along with a better package, often these days, the first release from a retailer never ends up being the best. While the FS Iron Man is still a grail, it's certainly not the best Iron Man steelbook out there anymore, but I digress.

I'm not interested in artcards, slips, lentis or anything like that. I just want a decent steelbook at a decent price. I go for Zavvi usually for ease and price. As I'm in the UK, it's a lot easier to order their steelbooks than to get hold of BB or FS editions, or pay the extortionate rates of Amazon.com/.ca shipping and deal with even more charges from customs.

If you play it right, there are deals to be had on Zavvi (yes, you run the risk of them going OOS), but usually I only pre-order the Disney/Pixar titles and chance it on anything else. You can't blame Zavvi for the quality of their steelbooks as usually they're identical to those in other countries, and as long as nothing goes wrong you're laughing. If things do go wrong, well, good luck as I know from experience.

I'm certainly interested in Terminator: Genisys, but not at £25. At £15 sure, £20 maybe if I love the art. I'll play the waiting game on this one and see what happens.

Not really, Terminator genesis 3D will be £19.99 on day of release on amaray, we pay an extra £5 for the special steel case it comes in, big whoop, i dont mind paying a little extra for something more special looking.

Rather pay £25 than £30-£40 importing it out of principle.

Well said; 3D steelbooks have been £20+ long before Zavvi came along; Play's version of Prometheus being an example and with cost of 3D amarays increasing is this really a surprise.

Back catalogue prices are different; don't agree charging the same for those especially when there is a good chance this will be a double dip!!

Anyway I've ordered this and won't cancel for a FA version

Seen it today - Kyle Reese sucks, apart from that quite nice action flick. As previously stated, definitely better than 3 and Salvation.

Also wouldn't mind if this was the final artwork, it's much better than the white Canadian SB

Disappointing movie could had been so much better. Not sure which is better - this or T3?

Ordered the steel anyway to complete the collection.

Damn right! :naughty:
I completely disagree that she was the best thing in the movie. She too cute and soft to be Sarah Connor, I liked the movie tho. About the having her on the cover hell yeah! Not too sure if I will pre-order a Zavvi steelbook. With 4000 copies the price might drop if the sales figures aren't promising for them.
