Hmmm... *scratches chin*

Another "ULTRA LIMITED" release which sells out within hours, for a fim nobody seems to have liked. Obviously Zavvi tactics at play here yet again! The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas sold out, yet weeks after release they are still in stock...

I also find it hard to believe that releases with 2,000-2,500 sell out, yet if they have only 1,500 more then Zavvi are stuck with them for months! Just take the Disney releases as a prime example! So are we to assume that there are >2,000 but <4,000 avid SteelBook collectors out there? If so, what is the magical number? Would a limited release of 3,000 still sell out as quickly?

Can we please stop with the conspiracy theories? Its nearly as boring as the constant ebay scalpers - if its sold out its sold out. Why stress yourself worrying over something you cannot control?

I for one thought the film was rubbish, but there are many collectors that will still buy this to complete their zavvi collection. 2k is still a low print run considering they deliver to the majority of the world!

And if I remember correctly didnt the Llewyn Lewis 2,000 print take over 3 weeks to sell out? Why would they fabricate a sell out with one release but not another? Makes no sense. Also isnt this is the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre blu-ray steelbook release ever across all movies? Putting Leatherface on a Steelbook for the first time regardless of what movie gets people excited.

The original had a steelbook DVD release but I think that's it.

Untill numbering & laser etching becomes the norm on limited runs, i think u will nevr see the end of questioning regareding stock ....and tbh honest, i dont blame them at all. Afterall, who can be sure of a "thing" without proof or evidence?

Heresay - true or not - will always be heresay.

I think it is clear to see that you have no idea what you are talking about. A Steelbook with a print run of 2000 is obviously more desirable than the same Steelbook with a print run of 4000. Would these titles sell 2000 copies in one day if they were limited to 4000? Probably not. Smaller print runs make Steelbooks more desirable which is why they sell out so fast. Another reason is that collectors think that the title won't be in stock long enough for a price drop, whereas with 4000 copy titles, they are happy to wait.

As for The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, I believe it is a case of collectors and resellers creating artificial demand. When they realise that real demand isn't there and they can't make a quick buck on their spare(s), they cancel their orders and the 'sold out' Steelbook is back in stock and available for a while again.

I'm sure even then the conspiracy theories won't stop. At the end of the day, if anyone chooses not to believe it that is fine, but there's no need to preach to members here as if doing a great service. Everyone is free to make up their own mind.
