This weekend I was up in Hayward, WI for the American Birkebeiner, a huge cross country ski race with almost 10,000 people skiing in a variety of different races.

My father in law has gone here for over 20 years and skied just about every year, so hes the one who got me into it all. I was a die-hard runner for most of my life, so I have a pretty good aerobic base, but was totally new to the sport and it has a pretty high amount of technical skill.

Anyways, I skated the Kortelopet, which is pretty much the half version of the Birkebeiner. The korte is 23 kilometers (14 miles for those who dont know in k's) and the full birke is 50 K's (or about 30 miles). It took me just over 85 minutes, which I was pretty proud of.

I was wondering if anyone else here cross country skied, or have heard of/gone to this race. I had an absolute blast and as long as I can get free in the future I will for sure be making my way back over the upcoming years.
