Its Now Sold Out
Took 4 Days to sell out

Not as fast as There will be Blood
that sold out in about 6-7 hours then about 1-2 hours when bulk orders were cancelled and relisted

It was never going to sell as fast as There Will Be Blood, more of a niche market for this one, but at least it sold so maybe Zavvi can do a few more outside the norm in future.

Of all the films in world why make this a 2k qty availability makes no sence to me at all , yes its an ok film and subject mater may not appeal to all but i can name thousands of films worthy of a limited availability but this is not one of them by any means in fact do away with the limited availability with all steelbooks so everyone can get a copy and calm be restored .

A lot of Zavvi releases are 4000 items, a large amount, especially older films, do not sell out and Zavvi end up lumbered with loads of unsold steels which they have to reduce over and over to get rid of them. I think limiting this to 2000 was very wise as it is more of a niche market and they would have struggled to shift 4000. Having no limitations on steels makes no sense as they would need a huge stock list and that would not be in their favour.
This is a perfect title for a 2000 limit and my order is in.

It makes perfect sense. They have decided to have 2000 copies printed and sell all of them at £16.99 a go during the pre-order stage. That is the ideal scenario for a retailer. Very little in the way of storage costs, the stock is in and out and the money in the bank. The alternative is to print 4000 copies and have to continually reduce the price until it sells out, possibly dropping the price as low as £4.99. Add to that the cost of storing all of the excess stock and it's a pain in the ass for a retailer. Zavvi have effectively taken a title with little appeal and made it a must have for a lot of collectors.

I don't mind it personally because there's more chance of titles I thought would never get a Steelbook being released. If StudioCanal/Zavvi have any sense, they'll be lining up stuff like The Deer Hunter, The Pianist, The Wrestler etc. i.e. acclaimed films that would otherwise not appeal to the mainstream collector. Maybe they should go one step further and do even smaller runs on stuff like Dead Man's Shoes, Four Lions etc. that would be awesome.

In fact, I hope this is a sign of things to come from Zavvi. They should get other distributors involved, concentrate on quality releases and keep the numbers low. Collectors are happy and Zavvi's bank balance is looking healthy, everybody is a winner.
