Q) What is the purpose of this thread?
A) To discuss Ebay policies/issues

Q) Where can i find the Ebay Presale Policy?
A) Click HERE

Q) Can a HDN Trade mod help me with an Ebay sale/trade issue? Also why is there no 'ebay bad traders' list?
A) Simply put, no. To find out why, ensure you read the following spoiler:
please use this thread as a RESOURCE to ask your fellow members about problems you've had with a reseller or questions about e-bay.

do NOT use this thread to attack or refute other members. if you an e-bay dispute with a member here, perhaps it's best to approach a trading mod before posting? we don't police e-bay, but maybe we can give you a tip or two.

if members ignore these suggestions, then the thread might be locked for a couple of weeks.

thank you.

hey folks,

as a reminder what myself (and other mods) have continued to mention via private message, e-mail and other areas. we do NOT police other trading marketplaces like ebay, youtube, amazon and the rest.

there is ONLY a certain amount of information at our disposal and we do not have the resources in these other locations as we do on this forum - things that we can look at and evaluate.

having said that, there are trading rules on this forum that have been instituted for your own protection for trading transactions that happen HERE.

this includes the pending / active sales threads, the requirement of feedback posted for any new traders, our support ticketing system, the active investigations held by trading moderators and many other things we do not discuss openly.

we have long held that problems occurring on these other forums and marketplaces should be taken the appropriate authorities on THOSE websites.

many of you are established traders here on this forum and you should know all about the guidelines that are stickied in this section - including having new traders send first, getting tracking from the other party and proof of shipment, and what other precautions can be taken to protect your trading safety.

trading via ebay and their messaging system is against their stated policy and should not occur - and there are reasons why they have created that policy. you don't have protection of paypal or their listing system as a buyer or seller.

having said that, if there is trouble with an ebay seller or buyer, you should go to their website and report it there. if you are not aware of this process, follow the below link for more information.

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/report-trading.html

so folks can feel free to chat about a seller or buyer that they are having problems with, but I can tell you right now - there will not be a "witch hunt" by moderators or staff based on one person's account of the problems or trouble they are having - and we limit the action taken for or against members here to transactions that occurred on this forum.

as stated in the thread title of our bad traders list - that list is for FORUM MEMBERS ONLY.

thank you.
Q) Where can i find the HDN Buyer Beware / Bad Traders list?
A) You can find the thread HERE

"eBay Customer Support made a final decision and asked the buyer to return the item to you for a full refund."

Right, thats it for me, I'm tired of Ebay. Once I've sold up my stuff I'm closing my account.

Sorry to hear that mate.

Unfortunately eBay/PayPal will never favour the seller unless its a person at the other end who can be bothered to read the notes and is trained to make case decisions based on facts.

There is the odd exception when they do, very rarely though its when the buyer returns the item and the tracking doesn't work or the item received is different to the one you sent. Again alot of ball ache for the seller because you have to send proof, fill in Avidet etc etc.

The update to my case:

I received a totally damaged Terminator 2 with a cut J card from the buyer from India. eBay paid out but no reason given and the funds that were on hold we're released.
Like yourself I'm quitting to.

Well at least he has to pay for the item to be returned with the expensive shipping so he is losing money as well. Anywhere in business you are always going to get a few bad apples. That's the nature of selling and companies take this into account in their profits.

I wouldn't let one silly buyer influence all your sales.

If its genuine fair enough otherwise it makes you wonder what people will come up with do get a freebie or discount.

More than genuine to me.;)

Naughtius Maximus,

It has happened exactly how I predicted. Sorry to hear that mate and if any negative feedback is left, you can notify eBay to get it reversed as you complied with the rules.

This guy has really P'd me off!
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/videoalex.1

I sold an item to him, and he received it yesterday. He then sent me 5 messages all in German within the space of 2 hours. I couldn't reply to any of these, because I was at work and strangely enough, I can't read German. So I got home and asked him if he could send the message In English as Googe translate wasn't really making any sense of what he had to say, and it turns out that he thinks I sent an item and forgot to include the free gift. So I went to work this morning and thought I'd look into this fully when I got home today as I didn't have time to do so yesterday, but when I loaded up eBay he's already left negative feedback and opened up a case.

This has really annoyed me, any reasonable person would allow the seller at least 24 hours to look into the situation before jumping straight in with bad feedback. Paypal are now holding £62 of my money, which I needed to pay for an item on won on eBay, and to top it off the guy I am dealing with is now ignoring my replies in the case that he opened. So he expected me to rectify the problem within 1 hour, yet it's Ok for him to not reply to a message I sent him 8 hours ago. eBay buyers suck, and the level of protection eBay affords them totally unbalances the buyer/seller protection.

I've dealt with this guy recently I was worried as he leaves bad feedback likes it going out of fashion:(.......I don't think he speaks English I sent nice emails tracking packed his item well everything zilch from him luckily he gave me positive feedback :D

Wish I never sold the item now he won it for pennies the going rate especially as it was mint.

I've done selling my steels on eBay as I get peanuts although my items are flawless EEK!

It was my mistake, I missed the bag out and I apologised and will be posting it tomorrow. But it's thes the fact that he didn't even allow me to try to resolve the issue before jumping straight into a dispute and leaving negative feedback that annoys me. People make mistakes, but only a complete ass would do what he did without allowing the seller to resolve the issue.

You're right though, looking at his feedback left for others this guy is a total douche. He leaves bad feedback for issues before letting the seller resolve them quite often by the looks of it. I shall be blocking him from ever buying from me again, that is for certain.

Ebay will remove his negative feedback if you explain your side to them. Be sure to point out that you attempted to rectify the situation within a reasonable time, that he ignored your attempts to message him, and that he routinely leaves negative feedback for others.

I'm sick of ebay myself. To be fair though, I've never had any problems selling (although I don't sell a massive amount on there) but buying is just so frustrating. I usually purchase old original CD pressings and even after asking about condition I routinely receive discs with scratches and artwork with damage/tears. Just recently I've been trying to acquire some Disney titles with slipcovers and having a total nightmare with it. Too many sellers these days are describing stuff as ''immaculate'' or ''mint'' or ''like new'', yet when they arrive the slips have corner damage, scratches or gunk on them.

I sent back a copy of Beauty and the Beast last week (2nd class recorded) as it arrived with what I can only describe as ''dog chewed up'' marks on the case, ripped artwork and the slipcover was mangled.

Photos here:

This was described as ''Like New - Never Watched'', which was a lie because there were fingerprint marks on the movie disc!
Seller has failed to respond, tracking is useless (still being processed through the network, apparently). Not only that but I've lost out a further £2.20 sending it back, plus wasting my time for something which is not my fault. It's just so frustrating.

Going to wait until after the bank holiday before escalating the case but does anybody know what will happen now? (or likely to happen?)

I've received a disc off eBay this morning which when i opened the package was a rattler and it also sounds like the book tab has broke as i can hear bits of plastic rattling around.

I'm pretty sure it was sent like this as it was very well packaged in lots of bubble wrap and in a strong box.

I've sent the seller a message saying i want to return it and am awaiting his reply.

On a seperate note how do you block someone on eBay from your sales ?

Cheers

Personally, I never see the problem myself with loose discs, especially if you're keeping the item sealed. This is why I don't like selling on eBay, buyers are far too OCD over every little thing now. I;m not having a go at you, it's just my personal opinion on the subject of loose discs.

Click the link half way down the page to bring up the "block buyers" field http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/manage_bidders_ov.html#block

If it was just a loose disc i wouldn't be that bothered but the fact i can here bits of plastic rattling and the book is loose means i'm not happy to accept it, also as i say i'm pretty sure it was already like this when sent and wasn't mentioned !

Thanks :)

Discs do get dislodged in transit by packages being thrown around by postal workers however there is a thread on HDN how to fix them. It's very useful and I've fixed many myself... Check it out.

I hate it when I get loose disks I always fear the worst :ohno: .

The best thing I have found from sellers is a squire of bubble wrap between the disk and case . Keeps them as snug as a bug in a rug .

Why do eBay buyers pay via echeque through Paypal? It annoys the heck out of me and there should be a way to block that method, if I wanted to wait 8 days to receive my payment then I wouldn't list Paypal as my only payment method!

I think a payment only switches into echeque payment when there's no money in the PayPal account and money has to be transferred from the linked bank account.

What GB dragon says - it is annoying but at least you know you will get the cash when it clears.

better that than sell something and then not get paid

I hate the echeque thing as well but I think it's something new because I swear in the past when using your linked bank as 'funding', Paypal used to make the payment on your behalf (instant) and then charge your bank, with would then show up on your account between 3-5 days. I guess they stopped that.

i need help please.

i have sold an UK bundle 2 weeks ago (10 steelbooks) on ebay. The buyer was happy with that transaction and let me a positive feed.

i have just received a mail from him saying that he has sold 6 steels that he bought from me and one of them has been refused from his buyer coz damaged. Now he wants me to refund him saying that damage has happened in my sale. if i don't refund him he will open a case through ebay.

what do you advise me? i can post here his email if necessary

thanks

i don't know if you can remember my case but ebay has stated today. i had never received any reply of the buyer. This is what ebay says:

A case has been opened because the buyer has an issue with an item purchased from you. We've reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer with a full refund of £38.25. The hold on this PayPal transaction has been removed.

This case is now closed. You aren't required to reimburse the buyer or eBay, and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation

if so can explain me what that means...

thanks
