I went with the black because I'm a sucker for when they use clear plastic in design like that. But, now I've seen photos of both I'm really conflicted.

The black edition doesn't look as nice especially since you can see the flap which folds in holding the outer slipcover together through the spine. However, I think in the long run (for people like me who open their stuff), the clear slipcover is going to look better longer because if the plastic scratches (and plastic scratches/fades regardless of how well you look after it) there's lot less coloured elements on it to get damaged.

The gold edition looks better overall. At first I thought the outer slip was going to be cardboard but with bits cut out. However, looks like the outer slip for it is also made from the same kind of clear plastic as the black edition but it's been completely coloured except for the lettering so the gold will show through. This means any imperfections will be a lot more noticeable than the black edition and if/once the colour comes off it'll be really obvious.

As for the swag, I think the black & white artcards are nicer than the coloured ones.

Hmm... maybe I'm gonna have to flip a coin to make my final decision.

We all knew it had to be good. $100 for a retail release is the most ive ever spent on a steelbook. I am sure the same goes for 99.99% of this message board. I cant recall any steel other than the Japan boxsets with a steel packed in on the side, but I don't really consider those a steels set. I consider those a digipack set with steel on the side. LOL.

The high price of this set should keep the steel in stock for a while though. I know there are dozens of posts on this board with people saying they would never spend $50 or more on a steel.

The effect of the blood splatter on the clear slip looks fantastically realistic but, overall, I think the gold edition looks better.
If the movies are in color, I don't know why a lot of people prefer the black & white photo cards over the color ones. The black and white ones seem to give the set a cheaper feel somehow. As if Blufans tried to keep the production cost down by going with black/white photos instead of color, although I know that, in reality, that was not the case. But for $100 I want color.

with very few exceptions, i quit buying cheap, matte finished, single-disc, Region B locked releases and stuck to the quality stuff. i'd rather have this than 2 or 3 common cheapies for the same price.

I'm doing the same actually, I'm very selective from now on. Will only buy the quality releases from Blufans, Kimchi, HDZeta and some exceptions (Disney / Marvel and DC Comic releases etc.). It is quality over quantity for me. And I think 100 USD is reasonable for this set. So many extras and its 3 movies so I can't complain..

The high gloss Play.com release is 4 disc and 1/3rd the price of this set. The monster boxset is 28 quid thus prompting me to pass this release.

I wish I possessed your discipline as a selective buyer but, unfortunately, I love these movies so much (well, part III not so much) that I can't resist having them in this premium packaging. I have the regular blu-ray set also but it is dressed in casual clothes while this Blufans set is tuxedo-clad.

I joined the black slip GB, but after looking at all the great pics, I think I prefer the gold version. Since the GB is still open, can I change my order? I have not been invoiced yet.
