I love the art but it does big me that on this and Aladdin they've used an updated illustration rather than the actual character designs from the movies - sort of betrays the movies in a way...
Looks more like Jungle Book 2 imo. I'd prefer the somewhat cold, pale colours of the originals on the characters. Think that would have been great against the new background.
But yeah, I agree completely. Why don't they just use some original art for their covers. Or do like Mermaid, choose from the available poster art. I mean, they have millions of film cells to choose from.
I think this is 'saved' by the background though, it really looks better than Aladdin I think.
I guess most viewers think all animated films look the same, so they don't really see the difference between the original artwork and the artwork made for home video releases

About back artwork: Would be great if it is a continuation of the scene on the front. Who knows, maybe Bagheera is there lurking in the shadows, keeping everything under control?

I think the higher print run is entirely justified. Why should such popular titles have the same printrun as Withnail and I? With all the problems Zavvi are causing their customers by using an outdated system that randomly cancel orders, I think it's good to know that the print run is adjusted slightly to meet demand. 7K is still pretty limited for a region free Disney title, especially considering that the many of the Walt Disney Treasure tins had 100k print runs and were still considered limited. I'm all for a limited release, but there's got to be a balance here.
I've ordered two of these. One through paypal, and one with a debit card, in case I get the same payment problems that I had with Finding Nemo.

does anyone think that the artwork will change..
i only asks because it does not make sense to have Shere Khan the tiger in that picture
he is the villain .. not part of that group
the look on his face is the one that Bagheera the panther would have and he should be on the cover to..in place of shere khan
You have a point. I think Shere Khan looks more like Prince John in Disney's Robin Hood with that expression.
It's exactly what I mean about dumbing down the Disney films on the cover. People look a that artwork and seem to remember only the fluff and silly jokes, and forget that many Disney films also have a dark side to them, and often are built on pretty effective storytelling.
