We all have our opinions (I certainly have mine with the new Die Hard failbook).

But I can't see how anyone can be "disappointed" with this cover. I tried to find a nice cover based on lots of image searching, and I didn't encounter anything this nice looking. Not even close actually.

Anxious to see what they have in the works for the back and inside, but based purely on the front that Zavvi has posted, I am MORE than pleased with that image.

To bring back a post from earlier in this thread, here is my effort for back and inside artwork:

I love the art but it does big me that on this and Aladdin they've used an updated illustration rather than the actual character designs from the movies - sort of betrays the movies in a way...

Looks more like Jungle Book 2 imo. I'd prefer the somewhat cold, pale colours of the originals on the characters. Think that would have been great against the new background.

But yeah, I agree completely. Why don't they just use some original art for their covers. Or do like Mermaid, choose from the available poster art. I mean, they have millions of film cells to choose from.

I think this is 'saved' by the background though, it really looks better than Aladdin I think.

I guess most viewers think all animated films look the same, so they don't really see the difference between the original artwork and the artwork made for home video releases

About back artwork: Would be great if it is a continuation of the scene on the front. Who knows, maybe Bagheera is there lurking in the shadows, keeping everything under control?

I think the higher print run is entirely justified. Why should such popular titles have the same printrun as Withnail and I? With all the problems Zavvi are causing their customers by using an outdated system that randomly cancel orders, I think it's good to know that the print run is adjusted slightly to meet demand. 7K is still pretty limited for a region free Disney title, especially considering that the many of the Walt Disney Treasure tins had 100k print runs and were still considered limited. I'm all for a limited release, but there's got to be a balance here.

I've ordered two of these. One through paypal, and one with a debit card, in case I get the same payment problems that I had with Finding Nemo.

does anyone think that the artwork will change..
i only asks because it does not make sense to have Shere Khan the tiger in that picture
he is the villain .. not part of that group
the look on his face is the one that Bagheera the panther would have and he should be on the cover to..in place of shere khan

You have a point. I think Shere Khan looks more like Prince John in Disney's Robin Hood with that expression.

It's exactly what I mean about dumbing down the Disney films on the cover. People look a that artwork and seem to remember only the fluff and silly jokes, and forget that many Disney films also have a dark side to them, and often are built on pretty effective storytelling.

if you look at the platinum dvd version it have nearly the same style of artwork as the steelbook:

and to be honest i think the new coverart style looks way better on a steelbook than the older ones, the fuller and richer colours could come really great with a glossy finish.

Of course, I just meant character design in general :D

Why don't they tell us what the print run is?!?

I wonder the same. Target Iron Man 2 was 30,000 copies, individually numbered, and that sucker still commands a stout coin in the market.

If Jungle Book and/or The Little Mermaid is 10,000 or less, I still think that would be a good thing for collectors and seen as pretty limited.

Another thread that has descended into talk about print run.

Who cares? This looks fantastic and judging by 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' and 'Finding Nemo', this is going to look ****ing amazing in the flesh. So let's wait to hear more and stop the silly speculation of something that in reality doesn't matter. I'd also like to know why it is that some people look for any opportunity to bash Zavvi? Give them a break. The alternative is very few Steelbooks at all, I know what I would rather have.

Annoying, but I fully understand why peeps are talking about print run/s. It all seems to be very secretive on these 2 Disney steels, which is usually not a good thing.

I know for me personally I would not have placed orders already if knowing these will be a high run because I'd rather prioritise other purchases if that were the case. Not only that but these are priced rather steep for single disc releases, so what are people actually paying the extra for? If anything, they should be cheaper as the single unit cost comes down as volume increases.

Spot on. Just appreciate the fact that zavvi have done a cracker with this 1 & hopefully a lot of people are going to be fortunate to own a copy.

Yay, I was going to pass in this but I just got my finding nemo steel in and seen how nice it was so I placed an order for this, little mermaid, tron, and dick Tracey. And I already had Aladdin and the rocketeer pre ordered. So I guess I caught the disney steel bug. :) I hope they do one for a bugs life or the other Aladdin movies. I would get those without hesitation. :scat:

I agree with Simon in this case. This is quite different from the print run discussion about the KimchiDVD T2 steel. With that one people were trying to figure out what seemed to be a discrepancy but at least KimchiDVD was disclosing the number of copies.

Here, it is completely unknown, so now people are speculating anywhere from 7K to 15K copies. It would be nice to know, even if it's 15K.

I keep debating on the Dick Tracey steel. i know when i am ready to buy, it will be too late.

That's why I just decided to go ahead and pre order it. That's one of the ones I'm most looking forward to even tho I only maybe seen the movis once a long time ago. I just hope there all region free. :)

Wreck said it's a little bit higher, but not HMV levels, so my guess is somewhere between 5-8k, not that it matters as i'm sure they would sell out regardless (unless it was a really stupid number). I'll just be happy if Disney do this right (as they have done with their first two Zavvi exclusives).

I too find the whole print run thing rather annoying. If you like the steel then pre order it. It's not out for a couple of months so at least you can cancel if you still not happy after you've mulled it over.

As Snooloui says, these will sell out (Disney steels invariably do) Then watch the 'I wish I'd ordered this' posts.
