I thought that's a joke - 12,000 copies of something most never heard of - was sure it'd be in a 50% off sale next year...
Season 2 Wtf GIF by Parks and Recreation
12000 in a day or so.
I call BS. There's some retail manipulation going on here.

It's The Keep. Michael Mann. Yep. Cult. Yep. 4K. Yep. But 12k, come on. The film's not even that good. It's a random movie for almost anyone. The definition of a cult movie. A nazi b movie alt horror.

Something weird happening here. Someone buying a lot of stock. Not individuals.
I mean it's cool but not 12k cool.

385 left...hmmm.

Fair enough, I'd buy it if it wasn't an import jobbie. So random though. 12k in a day. Wow. Amazed.

Sold out for now.. keep an eye on it though. I guarantee some people tried to buy more than two copies and they will get rejected.

Yeah, it’s a bit strange how fast this thing went. Even the standard is sold out.

Obviously you will have the witless who didn’t even want it but jumped in when the numbers started going down at pace, and those who think they can pop it on eBay for 3x the price, but there’s no way you would think this movie has the popularity/notoriety to burn through those numbers (and the standard edition as well) in 30 hours or whatever.

If there is, and always has been, a massive ‘the Keep’ cult out there just waiting for the day a specialist turd polisher gives Michael Mann’s weakest movie a 4k upgrade and a ‘meh’ slipcover then they sure as hell keep themselves well hidden. Mention it to most people and it merits a blank stare, a shrug of the shoulders, or someone might mumble something about how they sat through half of it on channel 5 once when pissed and it seemed atmospheric but made absolutely no sense whatsoever (it’s the same experience when sober, don’t worry).

It doesn’t really even have the ‘so laughably bad, it’s good (when you’re in that kind of mood)’ reputation of something like Congo or Showgirls, does it? It’s just kind of a bearable but badly butchered curiosity (give the directors work before and since).

I enjoyed the book quite a bit, but thought the movie was alright. I did buy myself a copy though.

Hey, Congo is seriously good, but even that, or Showgirls for that matter, didn't sell out this fast (or at all still, in case of Congo).
Either there was a typo, and it's just 1200 copies, or they held back some for some reason...
I did notice one thing though - you know how all these more 'special' releases list at the top they're NOT included in any of their useless subscriptions for freaks that buy everything, well this one IS included, in all of them. So maybe they did just allocate them all...

Are the Imprint and Vinegar different 4k scans an grades?
I've got a feeling we're going to see this over in the EU and UK at some point next year.
Not sure who holds the distribution rights over here but the film, well, it screams Arrow to me. Let's see.

I've not seen anything conclusive on whether Vinegar licensed their scan to Imprint or not - I notice the announcement was made directly after the initial VS sell out so could be linked? I think you are right about future EU releases here. Scarcity of a proper Blu Ray release/ cult following/ Mann following/ Tangerine Dream soundtrack makes this an in demand title for some. I believe the only HD version knocking around was a bootleg from a hi-def TV broadcast years ago so for some this has been an anticipated release.

It is an interesting timing for this announcement, but it is probably just because of the weekend. Does ViaVision usually announce new releases on the fist day of the month?

This is an impressive package; outstanding A/V quality (I do appreciate and like the original stereo track), and extremely happy (and grateful) to VS for enabling the rescue of such a mistreated video title.

Here are some pictures of it, detailing the glossy embossing letters and the rest of contents, in case you fancy.
