These are the two official title designs, and they've decided to use both, since they include theatrical disc in one, and extended discs in the other slips.
Large LotR version is the original/first, used for Theatrical releases, and the other appeared later on Extended re-releases.
It's been like that since DVD:

No plans for the hobbit have been shared this far, no. Doesn't mean that won't change in the future though.

I'm conflicted on this set to be honest. I love the steels, I really do, yet the slips have an overall lacklustre appeal. Really would love to see some in hand shots - do Blufans usually release any irl clips or vids before pre orders?
Probably not.

Probably not.

Before preorders, not usually. They do often appear at various stages of production before shipping commences though.

Blufans have changed the rears of the double lentis, and also the books. The other two books should also be the character posters of Frodo and Saruman.

LOL I had a feeling something like this would happen because of the backlash of no time to die and they changed the DL art with a small reposition but didn’t realise they’d completely change the art. Front is still the poorest front art I’ve seen blufans use on the front of DLs but that change for the backs and the booklets is a massive difference!

As if the other version was what they were happy with when they had these changes up their sleeves. Don’t make sense

My thoughts exactly. I think it looks better, but not so much for me now as a companion to my hdz slips.
