The Martian, Directed by Ridley Scott opens November 25, 2015.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

Anyone seen this, is it any good?

Can't decide if it's going to be brilliant or just another boring, too serious space film?

Saw this yesterday. Easily Ridley's best work for a LONG time! Matt Damon was excellent as were the rest of the cast and there are some truly great moments. Loved it! I'll be pre-ordering the HMV steelbook, but I'm hoping there'll be a FAC release

Went to see a late showing of this movie yesterday and I was very impressed. I really enjoyed it start to finish, much more than gravity. The pacing was perfect, Damon was spot on keeping me entertained in my seat, and the other characters were equally entertaining.

Enjoyed it more than Gravity and on par with Interstellar

I suspended my disbelief that Watney was able to accomplish everything he was able to, he has to be a smart man to be able to go on a mars mission. The only criticisms I had was the 7 month jump all of a sudden it’s 7 months later that and the gung ho attitude everyone on the Hermes had about saving Watney.

Obviously they intentionally did not have a year in the movie and it was so kind of China to jump in after the Chinese Americans failed cause of their haste!

But why is Matt Damon always getting stuck on planets and we have to rescue him, poor fellow.

This won a Golden Globe for best comedy/musical? There were some funny moments, but I wouldn't class it as a comedy... although, out of all the nominees (The Big Short, Joy, Spy, Trainwreck) this is easily the one that made me laugh the most, which says more about the other films in the category than it does this one. I don't even know where to begin with the musical aspect. o_O
