Maybe Zavvi are just finally trying to do something to combat the eBay scalpers, i know alot of people order 2 copys so they can open 1 and keep the other sealed but alot of others order just to sell on ebay for stupid amounts.

Zavvi probably realised this when the recent Pirates and Avengers steels went up on ebay a week or so before release.

If you want someone to blame, blame the scalpers, not zavvi.
Which would be good, except Zavvi are then robbing customers blind by only offering certain steelbooks as part of its Z-Box "deals".

If they are obtaining extra stock purchased from customers simply to redistribute it for £40+ as a way to get rid of its Z-Boxes that's despicable...

See that i wont disagree with. Offering a steelbook for £14.99 then upping it to £49.99 and enabling you to get it for £19.99 with the ZBOX is just bad business and im pretty sure illegal.

Still contemplating what to do with this, whether I'll stick and keep it, or twist, and get rid (offered another member on here the copy if I do decide I don't want it)
Part of me wants it, for the exclusivity of it, the fact it's frikken Terminator, and that I don't own the Play steel.
The other part of me thinks £20 on a 30 Year old movie is excessive, and a little sceptical on what finish will be applied to this...

But surely its non of Zavvi's business what people do with their copies?

I have one on pre-order as I only ever buy steelbooks for my own use and I never sell stuff on, but even if I ordered say five copies Zavvi will still make the same income as if five individual people buy them.

I'm pretty sure Zavvi don't care who buys their steelbooks, as long as they sell them at the full intended price they win even if someone else sells it for more somewhere else.

I'm not defending scalpers in any way but I'm sure Zavvi couldn't care less either - I would think Zavvi only put a limit on steelbook orders cause of negative feedback in the past by fans / collectors - in reality I'm sure they would love one person to buy all their stock at full price.

I own the play.com steel and have done since it released and i can tell you its a beaut, if you can grab it for under £30 from anywere i would say snap it up.

Absolutely agree with you; I posed a similar question regarding the Z-Box combos a while back, and think the general consensus is that it isn't illegal as such.
Still, awful, AWFUL business practise by Zavvi, but then we've come to expect it. Would be interested to know who makes the decisions there and who ultimately runs that circus...

As above- If Zavvi are cancelling multiple orders, it's for their own interests, so they can re-offer said "sold out" steelbook as part of the Z-Box deal (you know the one...buy this heap of junk nobody wants for £20, and get the steelbook for £20) Looks like they can't get rid of them any other way so this is what they've resorted to...

Dont be so naive. Zavvi have become scalpers.

it used to be all cancelled orders would be put back on sale, either during pre order, on release day, or shortly after. now, zavvi hoard all the cancelled pre-orders and pair them with zboxes, essentially 'justifying' a (often) 100percent price increase. that is what you call scalping.

zavvi are doing exactly what ebay scalpers are doing- seeing the value of steelbooks and exploiting the costs collectors are willing to pay for them. only difference is, zavvi cant legally get away with just hiking the prices up, so instead they pair the steels with another product (a box of worthless rubbish *zbox*) to stay within trading standards.

people need to wake up

Nope its not multiple orders that are being cancelled, it happened to me for a single order. I am getting sick of this after avengers and now this. When i order, making sure i have logged on time when stuff is available to purchase and to secure my copy. And after that it gets cancelled when i have made sure to make time for buying the copy, its just wrong. Particularly its always a inconsistent way zavvi does cancellations and then these "z-box" deals will come up later...i cant be bothered with. I have reduced zavvi purchases and one more instance and i will be fully boycotting them...voting with wallet!

The final straw for me this evening has been seeing titles listed on extra-vision, for example...

Training Day, zavvi exclusive limited edition, ultra limited print run. I pay full price on release day.

2 months later it's in the bargain bucket, under a tenner.

another 2 months later it's listed for sale by extra-vision.co.uk.

It's no longer exclusive after just 4 months, the print run was 100% bull. As an avid collector i find this practice completely unacceptable which is why i'm getting out of the collecting game.

It's not even just zavvi, extra-vision also have once upon a time in america listed, which is supposed to be amazon exclusive, i paid nearly £20 for it a month ago and now it's £13 from a different retailer! I hate various aspects of zavvi, from customer service to zbox package scams but i think a lot of the print run and exclusive BS has to be from scanavo.

ps. sorry mods, i'll expect to follow up with my post in the retailer thread :D

Zavvi is a offical licensed business, i expect them to be greedy most businesses are, but ebay scalpers are just collectors themselves ripping off fellow collectors, thats worse imo.

Some people order 2 because they have received damaged STEELBOOKS from zavvi (yes-me),I often order 2 copies of zavvi steelbooks as I have family that would like a copy & keep them back for birthdays & Xmas-I understand zavvi limiting orders to 5 or less on most runs-not everyone is a scalper...

You misunderstand me, i know not everyone is a scalper, but i think zavvi are definatley wiseing up to the ebay sellers, its not fair you guys have to pay for the scalpers misuse of a hobby but its just the way it is.

a business can offer good deals, offer good customer service and have customer satisfaction as a priority. in fact, that is what a good business/retailer would do- offer customers value for money.

zavvi are doing the exact opposite right now, we are not getting value for money, they are ripping us off. and since they practically have a monopoly on the uk steel market, they know collectors have no choice but to pay their extortionate 'ransom' ... since they really are holding our hobby hostage.

Unfortunately, this isn't going to change- End of the day, most of their steelbook stock sells out (well, the more popular titles anyway)

I believe Zavvi's business model is- Maximise profit with NO exception. This includes making customers a lesser priority than most other businesses.

It makes me think if they've got into a contract with the makers of the z-boxes, and they're signed up to distributed x amount of these z-boxes as per a contract agreement.
They know they can't sell them all in an ethical way, so they pass the buck of their shortcomings ultimately onto the customer- the ones who SHOULD be the most important cog in their company's fortunes...

Also- Could any mods move the Zavvi postings onto the relevant retailer thread please??
Know I've contributed a fair few messages to the topic on here, but I don't want to clutter up the thread seeing as we've gone way off on a tangent.
Thanks!!!

Not sure it could be classed as illegal, but it is certainly sharp pracrice which is frowned upon by trading standards.

Then again, when I talked about giving them a short sharp shock by a mass buying of the fifty quids steels and zed boxes, followed by a mass cancelling of the orders - just to bugger them up - I was told i was victimizing them :)

But, to get this back on topic. I am very pleased that I managed to get in on the intial pr-orders for this one - especially as I missed it first time round.
