. . . looking forward more than usual to having this steelbook in my hands to see how it's been treated.
(in other words, hopefully not like the DVD steelbook ^ but with a frame and embossing . . . and glossy . . . or spot glossed Warriors / title at the very least).
...............................................................................................................................................................
Weird hoo-ha :banghead: about a slipcase that :-

a) is a freebie (as in, does not increase the price of a regular steelbook) that can be binned or stored elsewhere as obviously it's not physically attached to the steelbook.

b) will probably end up with a value of its own at some point and you will be seeing these sold separately (to the steelbook).

c) is not poor quality (for a freebie) and parts of it are twice the thickness of a regular slipcover.

d) is not just a plain one colour affair and does have artwork on it, titles etc. and not all have repeated artwork.

I don't even count them as slips, just added protection for your steelbook.

These slipcovers are actually a negative. They don't add anything
...or camouflage for damage.

at all. Wish they would stop and just use a J-card instead. Worst quality slips i've ever seen.

Man, i am starting to regret this purchase! I don't have ONE slipcase steel in my miniature collection. "The Warriors" is a good movie - a bit dated now, which most times i don't mind, but the last time i watched it years back i remember thinking some of it a bit cheesey. Like when they show all the different gangs going to the gathering at the beginning - let's face it, if they dressed like that now they'd be laughed off the streets! But, at the time it was like, "WOW! Look at those badasses!!" I bought this straight off because: 1) mistakingly thinking it a pre order. 2) i like to get a pre order in quick to secure a copy of a film that i would most possibly go for at some point when it's cheaper, 3) i didn't have any prior knowledge that Zavvi was going to release a steelie of this, so it caught me fast and fresh. 4) ......it comes with the slip, which now, reading you guys comments, seems it can do without!
Personally, and on a purely selfish note, i hope this sells out while still at this price, because i dont want be looking at it still in stock in months time..........for half the damn price, or whatever. This is something that i could have waited for. On a positive note though, "The Warriors" is a great night time movie, with an awesome atmosphere, and i remember well the hoohaa it created when it first hit the cinemas. Hopefully the steelie will be nice, and i am hanging on Pauls knowledge and expectation of this as spot glossed, etc, to prop up my anticipation for now, and justify this purchase. Other than that, might just have to send it back, haha!

Comparing 'THEN/WHEN' with 'NOW'..... That's just @#*%
Your children will have a great laugh over your wardrobe in a couple of years. But a classic will always remain a classic ;)

This could go either way, a cheap streaky finish and it will look terrible or gloss with deep red embossed title and we have a winner.

As for the slips, there not very good, but then again, for the price it is what it is, a descent slip would add an extra £10+ on to this release.

pre orders are useful to both customers and retailers.

we can reserve our copy

secure one while we look at other similar releases and then decide before release if we want to keep our reserved copy.

we can manage our funds a little with plenty of notice.

if we are undecided, we can pre order and think about it

but to be fair to zavvi, it seems the majority of customers (including myself) misuse the pre order, as a pre order doesnt really mean we intend to buy- as it should do. so in the end, its of no benefit to zavvi. instead its probably a hindrance, unless their pre order cancelling procedure is totally automated, it must a nightmare for them cancelling orders that should never have been made in the first place, and also processing returned orders from people who forgot to cancel items they never intended on having but pre ordered anyway.

by doing away with pre orders and having people simply buy up front on release, it cuts 80percent of the bullshit workload for zavvi.

you want it? you buy it. it makes sense for zavvi

True.

That might be true, but if they are not using computers to process the cancellations, they are doing it wrong ;)

Mmm. they may like to add £10 for a better slip, but the difference in actual cost between thin and thick card is negligible, especially when buying in bulk as the manufacturers do - maybe an extra 10 to 20p per slip tops. The rest is sheer profit.

As for finish, gloss woudl be good - but I'm doubtful it will be.

Not being funny mate but we can't factor in manufacturing cost because it's all a rip off from the disc to any packaging the manufacturing cost compared to the retail price to us is ridiculous, yeah I'm expecting a streaky matte and if it is, I'll be moving it on and sticking with an amaray...

Personally, I like the slipcases and welcome more of them... they save me from having to spend money on those protective slips that are ridiculously overpriced for a piece of plastic. Plus, as has already been mentioned countless times... the price would be exactly the same without them, so you're basically getting the slips for free! But if you really dislike them so much, then I guess you could give them to someone who actually has use for them... or just simply throw them away.

For me Time is Still Money. So if I have to pre-order, take the time to ''investigate'', cancel order and looking out for better price- or even don't buy it, the steelbook will cost more than just buing it ;)

Oh absolutely, no argument about that. If the studios & manufacturers chose to make a small return on their wares, we'd likely get Amaray blus for a fiver, and Regular Steels for no more than £7.50, probably a tenner tops with slip and all the gubbins. Ideal world scenario, of course.

Oops, there goes another flying pig . . . . . .
