I think I'm going to go with Zavvi this time around since Amazon never fails to send me damaged/carelessly packed steels. Not fun trying to get a replacement to something that's been sold out (Rush).

Same for me. Before, I gave priority to amazon, now I avoid because of their new packaging policy that does not protect our loved steelbook. I bought dozens of steelbook at zavvi and only one arrived damaged.

So does anyone know if the 4 hour cut is 100% confirmed for the blu ray or is it still not decided? I saw an article that said it won't be happening so Im not fully sure anymore.

Think you just answerd your own question! Not sure about the 4 hour cut. Scorsese don't usually do director cut stuff. They apparently might make it to the deleted scenes but even that Is only a maybe. Also an alternate ending but again we may never see that.

This is ridiculous. How are you guys ordering from zavvi when it's clearly sold out? I went to their site yesterday and it was sold out and I just clicked the purchase link up too and says sold out again. How is it that some people just pre ordered it today and yesterday then?

I'm going to watch this today and after that might preorder it, but I don't think I already need a movie 3 months after it has been in theatres. The time period is too short, 6 months would be ok, but that's another topic. But in 3 months, I guess I don't want to watch the/a movie again, it usually takes much more time for me, so I don't need to have it on release day. On the other hand, if this sells out, turns out as embossed (and I guess the updated artwork pretty much confirms that) and the German version is inferior, I'll cry :(

Who says you have to watch it the day you buy it???

I'd rather preorder, secure my copy and watch it whenever I choose.

Yeah, Amazon's packing of steels has dropped shockingly in recent times. The last 2 times I ordered from them the steels arrived loose in a box with no protection. For me Zavvi is a safer bet for receiving undamaged steels right now.

not being funny here but how many steelbooks would be people miss out on based on that principle alone, look at certain steelbooks that sell out and people now moan how they wished they had pre-ordered. one example that come to mind is rush there are plenty more.
I must have about 15 steelbooks unwatched at the moment but they are there waiting for when i have a little free time and i won't have to worry if i can get a copy at a reasonable price either from the flea bay scalpers either.
my bet is you could get catched out if you haven't already?
also something to bear in mind there are people that don't bother to watch alot of these films at the cinema like me for example due to cost.
if me and my wife went to cinema bucket of coke and hotdog you looking at £30 for 2 of us for 1 visit, start doing that for lots of films i would be broke.
where as if i just buy steelbook for £15-£25 depending on 3d etc i can watch again and again. plus if i don't like it i can flog on but that hasn't happened yet for me anway so far, what i buy is because i want it.

You can't really compare the experience of a cinema to watching at home on a tv, unless you have a cinema sized tv (which would cost a lot more than a thousand cinema tickets). It's like comparing an awesome roller coaster ride to sitting at home in your daughters toy car with a fan on full power in your face. Some films are best to see at the cinema.

Exactly, I like going to the cinema and think it's always different than watching a movie at home. So buying the steelbook for release would be a 25€ trophy, standing in the shelf for a very long time. For me that's quite a lot, therefore it's always difficult when a new movie is released as a steelbook.
I think we don't know the print run for this, do we? So what I will do is preorder from amazon.de, apparently they changed the artwork to the same as UK. I guess it's not released until June or July, so I have plenty of time to think about if I like the UK edition enough to pay full price.

Well, a thousand cinema tickets at £5 each (that's how much they cost here) amount to £5k. Split that in two, you have £2.5k for a projector + screen and £2.5k for the sound system. Might not be exactly equal to a cinema experience, but pretty damn close.
