Very interesting to see the Third Reich machine at its peak, functioning efficiently, and those who profit from it. Nothing is never shown from inside the concentration camp, but there are plenty of subtle tidbits and sounds and conversations that reveal the horrible truth. Most shocking is probably how mundane it is for everyone involved, just one regular day after another, using Jewish prisoners as slaves, picking through their clothes for the German servants, or discussing how to get the gas chambers working more effectively, around the clock. And that's how it was, and I'll always be amazed how much and how well the Germans have done, and built, in just 4-5 years. If only they applied that elsewhere.

Yep, I think about that from time to time. We could be living in utopia (i know, dangerous word) if we'd put as much effort into creating a good society as the nazis did into creating hell on earth in those camps. Pretty fascinating topic for me. I really liked this film too, especially the care that went into the audio design where they located exactly where the sounds would have come and how it would have sounded where the camera is located. When I watched the film I thought there is no way it was this loud and just plain gruesome sounding all the time, but I guess that's how it was.

IMO the most horrific WWII movie as it shows -and even more gruesome, sounds terryfying. Uncomfored feel all the way through but still a must see for obvious reasons.
