My feeling is that there will come a time in the not too distant future when "Sold out" will mean exactly that and we won't all be so complacent about it not meaning what it says.

"Sold out" in the dreaded grey box will not mean "Zavvi sold out" (i.e. temporarily sold out and back again at or near release date) - or even "Not yet available to pre-order" . . . LOL - but "Sold out" for real.

I refer to a time when more collectors get into steelbooks and the hobby becomes more mainstream although the other side of the coin is that this is as good as it gets for steelbooks and that they are plateauing with last year the biggest year on record with approx. 244 (against this year's 231 approx.) and that it's only downhill from here with fewer and fewer releases year on year . . .

We are taking about sold out before a pre order is released.

A lot have sold out and stayed that way. We are very aware that items do in fact sell out.
BUT zavvi have this problem where some time down the line a sold out item suddenly becomes avaliable again out of the blue.
Yes some come in and then out and then back in and then out and so on (avengers lenti) but some also come back after a long period of being sold out and stick around for a long time regardless of "only 100 left" emails.
I've never seen a company use scare tactics with steelbooks as much as zav do.
And it's the boy who cried wolf and that's why we don't believe it more than half the time.

Yeah there is a possibility it's officially sold out but I don't believe it for one second (just have a feeling - I may be wrong)

Yeah it will defo come in stock at release due to cancellations and payment problems but we will only know then how long it will last.

Plus if this turns up (or whatever one they release first out of this wave) like avengers with dark matte and crappy lenti then don't expect the rest to sell out except 1 or 2 that actually have a decent design (for me Thor & winter soldier are the decent designs but then I like the front of iron man 3 too)

Thank you :)

I love my Movies, I have a relatively new Steelbook addiction. After having to abandon my entire DVD collection of around a thousand in another country (long story) . I came back to the UK and bought a TV that came with 2012 steelbook http://www.onoffblog.fr/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/2012-steelbook-4.jpg movie kind of sucked but I got a premium feel from the packaging lol. Since then I have bought 25 in the last couple of weeks and can't stop :s

I'm obsessed..
So SHINY!
Welcome to the club of steelbook addicts and you will soon notice that your addiction is not uncommon as far as steelbooks and other forms of metal packaging for films are concerned.
You've come to the right place for steelbook related stuff, to see in-hand pictures of steelbooks, to get information on the films contained therein and best of all to read info on the tastiest deals and discount codes around in the U.K. and in other territories.

For some reason mickle & pickle are making me chuckle and I can't get it out of my brain at the mo

I feel I will dream about you both tonight (well my interpretation of you that my mind will sub consciously create in my sleep - will prob be something f*cked up, maybe a terminator story played a sackboy and his random partner a pickle, dobby may even turn up)

Had a thought.... Is smelly pickle dobby's penis?

Personally I don't see fewer releases as the hobby going downhill and I don't necessarily see it as a productive year when 244 are released, all that means is the market is now saturated which for me will put people off collecting rather than encourage. ...

I see your point but I personally will always prefer more rather than fewer releases as there is a better chance (for me) of finding steelbooks I'd like to buy the greater the selection on offer.

. . . and of course I don't see any correlation between the number of releases and the quality of said releases . . .

Just a final off-topic word regarding "Freedom of choice is king" - as the moderators are understandably not in favour of such ramblings not directly related to the steelbook in question:-

If you take this year as an example we have had a wonderful selection of steelbooks representing most genres with a few choice examples of films in steelbooks listed below :-

- Classic silent METROPOLIS (1927)

- Multi Oscar winners SPARTACUS (1960) and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962)

- Classic and modern horror BLOOD AND BLACK LACE (1964), DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1966), NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), DELIVERANCE (1972), DON'T LOOK NOW (1973), RABID (1977) to POLTERGEIST (1988), SLEEPY HOLLOW (1999), CABIN FEVER (2002), WOLF CREEK (2005) and YOU'RE NEXT (2011)

- Westerns UNFORGIVEN (1992)

- Cult DR. STRANGELOVE (1964), EASY RIDER (1969)

- Sci-Fi from DR. WHO (1965) and the STAR WARS saga (1977 - 2005) to TRON LEGACY (2010)

- Foreign language from DAS BOOT (1981) to KUNG FU HUSSLE (2004) and THE HOST (2006)

- Comedy 3 X MONTY PYTHON (1975, 1979, 1983)

- MARVEL steelooks

- Animated MARVEL steelbooks

- MATRIX TRILOGY (1999 - 2003)

- JURASSIC PARK QUADRILOGY (1993 - 2015)

- FAST AND FURIOUS COLLECTION 1 - 7 (2001 - 2015)

- PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 1 -3 (2003 - 2007)

- Musicals THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965) and THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980)

- 4 X TERMINATOR (1984 - 2015)

- 9 X JAMES BOND (1963 - 2012)

- BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY (1985 - 1990)

- Several Disney and Pixar classic animations including A BUG'S LIFE (1998), RATATOUILLE (2007), WALL.E (2008) to BIG HERO 6 (2014) etc.

- TV shows BREAKING BAD complete seasons (2008 - 20143), GAME OF THRONES: SEASONS 1 & 2 (2011 & 2012) to BETTER CALL SAUL: SEASON 1 (2015)

I think you'll agree that there's some pretty decent stuff there and hopefully something for everybody, which is ideal from my POV.

Of course some of the above steelbooks will be preferred to others as will the many others not included in this brief rundown :)

More quantity means less quality

Welcome. Another soul to damnation :ohno:.

I think that when the time comes where everything is 'streamed' Steelbooks will be the physical collectible answer even if it only comes with a UV code.

Noone will buy a code for amaray .. Oh wait some people just buy codes

gotta admit thats pretty artwork

but after the ball's up of the lenti-magnet being smaller than the actual steel artwork, this could look a mess
