I'm not dissing the GB hosts because I know they put in a lot of work and make obtaining these possible.

But would it be so hard to pick a single time and stick to it? Why is it always over a 3 or 4 hour period ? Is there a specific reason for this?

I do not see how 3 hour (or a bit less) bloodbath is better than 5-minutes bloodbath. The difference is only that, in addition to bloodbath, a hunderd people will WASTE a few hours of their life.
Its actually better for HDN, since it increases presence of ninjas at the site, but really temporarily.
Why stretching the bloodbath instead of fixing the faulty GB system?

People spend or "waste" time on all kinds of things. Depending on your perspective. I would not wait many hours in line for the latest cell phone. Or hours in line for a "Black Friday Special" that will likely be gone by the time I get in the store. But many people do. It's all personal choice. No gun is pointed to anyone's head.
