Thanks for the larger pics...that's incredible, did not know about a book

Would anyone be so kind and say something about HMVs current packaging with the TOTAL RECALL steelbook - maybe someone could take a photograph and post it here if they were so kind. Would be great.

I prefer the UK one as well, I really like the red.

Unless HMV deliver the post in your area, I fail to see how this is their fault.

Probably got something to do with them cutting corners and sending out using TNT now, thats why i was blaming them. :p

Packaging for me was in their normal cardboard which is what i always receive. No damage for me as always.

That means standard shipping cardboard where the steelbook can bump from corner to corner. My first order was Sherlock Holmes steelbook and it arrived in mint condition - I hope it will be the same here.

OK, so.......I've been checking this out this afternoon and here's what I can confirm.

It's definitely Region B locked.

Audio: English, French and German

(I assume the french and German audio is DTS MA. I haven't checked it out, because you cannot change the Audio from English on this one on my remote while the movie is playing for some strange reason. You can select from English, French or German menus screens at the start though when the disc boots up)

It includes the 23 min making of from the previous French Blu Ray Steelbook release along with a few other short bits and pieces. But it does also include a commentary from Verhoeven and Arnie.

Now, the biggest thing for me (and remember this is jusy MY personal opinion-the new transfer is not a patch on my old French copy. My old copy wins hands down. The new transfer looks like an old 1980's VHS. Very grainy and washed out. I can't see how they are supposed to have improved on this when, in my opinion, it looks worse. Especially as I put the two seperate Blu ray's on one after another and there is just no comparison for me. In the special features they include a hokey 'restoration comparisson' where a white line seperates the screen down the middle showing scenes from the movie where one half is supposed to be the old tansfer compared with the new. But the old transfer they put up on screen looks like an old 60's black and white movie. The older transfer never looked like this (it looks like those Disney piracy comparison clips they put up before the trailers on Disneys films)
This just makes me think they pulled a fast one with the transfer. Very dissappointed with it indeed :(

Now I stress again-this is just my personal opinion. I am sure there will be differences of opinions on this subject. But it has made my mind up for me that I will hold onto my old French copy for now and maybe try and sell this one on. Not worth the 25 Euro's in my mind :(

Thank god someone else can see how bad the uk edition is. I too have the French steelbook and the transfer on that is so clean and scratch free, I was shocked when I played the uk version. The worse scene I noticed was when Arnie was watching a news report on his apartment wall, there's so much distortion, grain and scratches visible! I think we've been conned with the uk release, so much so that I'll be selling mine and sticking with my far superior French edition - not happy!

Am really torn now, especially with what I'm hearing about this so called "Director Approved" transfer (BTW is that a sticker or printed?)! Do prefer the UK steel even if Arnie looks constipated on the back, always hated it when he pulled that face in his films, I think he does it more in this movie than any other he's in, you could probably turn it into a good drinking game! It's a sci-fi classic though!
