This week, Mutant is proud to present our very first video game score and our first collaboration (as Mutant) with our dear friends, legendary Quebec synth duo Le Matos, for the critically acclaimed video game adaptation of TURBO KID (now available on Steam, and coming soon to Nintendo Switch).
Released in 2015, the film TURBO KID quickly became a cult sensation. Developer Outerminds (In collaboration with RKSS, the creators of the film, and EMA Films) had the galaxy-brained idea to bring the wasteland to life in glorious pixel art, and to let you take control of The Kid himself. They have developed an ultra-violent, retro-looking metroidvania, set between the end of the film and its forthcoming sequel.
Driving this madness is an incredible soundtrack by Le Matos, as they return to the wasteland they helped create nearly a decade ago. They cherry-pick influences from the finest electronic music of the past forty years: John Carpenter, Vangelis, and Tangerine Dream, Daft Punk, and Justice all serve as foundational touchstones, blended into an 80’s synthpop style. They create astonishing retro-futuristic synthwave sounds, including an impressive re-teaming with Pawws for the single, "To Yesterday”.
TURBO KID – A place beyond your dreams, a record beyond your imagination.
You can listen to the album now on Spotify, plus directly through the band on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Featuring all new artwork by Luke Preece, the physical versions (pressed on double neon vinyl, CD, and a super-limited cassette) are available now at madebymutant.com.
