i'm glad i did not cancel, but instead pre-ordered 2 copies with the 10% code.
mockup without title looks great already, i hope zavvi sorted out the packaging issue already or at least until this gets shipped.

Reply I got from Zavvi when asked about packaging for Alice and Robin Hood
I can now advise that our warehouse will package all items in sufficient packaging to make sure that they arrive with you in the best condition possible.
Doesn't scream 'Yes we started using the boxes again' but you never know...

Gloss finish and elegant, clutter-free design - nice!

Now just hoping dear ol' Zavvi don't screw the pooch by sending em out in crappy card mailers.

I got a steel from them yesterday packed that exact way.
It was fine despite the lack of protection.

Zavvi shipping is ultra cheap. They only charge 99p for international shipping, and it is free within the UK. If they shipped all their steelbooks in big boxes surrounded by pillow size bubble wrap, shipping would be ultra expensive. :p

Now this is confirmed gloss I think it could look really nice. It's still a little pricey but I might try and get hold of one at some point.

The gloss might make it look amazing, but at the end of the day I can't justify paying that for a movie I haven't seen. Hopefully I'll be able to check it out soon, since I've only heard positive things.

Personally, even if they charged extra for it I'd like to have the option to have extra protection when buying Steelbooks that are ultra limited print runs, etc.

Gloss is nice, but not £24.99 nice.

Full gloss, limited run, WEA, Scarlett nude "I'm sure a few bought it purely for that reason" and sold out.

It might not become a grail but I can see this one only increasing in price after launch. 25 might be the lowest price for a very long time. :D

I think it will only change if and when they realise the amount of damaged ones they are refunding for. It also depends on how many people complain that they have small dents etc.
What makes it worse is that they are selling them through other websites, whilst not replacing damaged ones.

Back on topic, is this movie worth watching?

They'll likely cost in a % of returns based on a test period and then figure out if the saving in post and packaging costs more than outweighs the extra losses. Cynical, but that's how businesses run. The only thing that would persuade them to use different packaging is if people stopped buying. That would hurt them enough to make them rethink. Won't happen though when they have punters hooked with the exclusives.

It's a slow-paced art movie rather than sci-fi thriller. Think of 'The Man who fell to Earth' and you wouldn't be too far off. I loved it, but then I like Terence Malick and Lars von Trier movies, so my tastes are a little off mainstream. Edge of Tomorrow it ain't (though I liked that movie too).

I just received a steelbook from Zavvi 20 minutes ago. It was dispatched on Friday and it came in a thin brown card envelope wrapped in one sheet of thin foam. The steelbook had 2 minor scratches. I'm emailing them now to complain.

Honestly, they are idiots.
For the prices they charge for some of the new release titles, you would think they could at least go for a more sturdy standard shipping option.
'Home of Steelbooks' my :ass:

Back on track, caved in and bought the iTunes release yesterday and watched it last night.
It's an incredible film, pretty harrowing at times... but Ms. J - what a performance.
Glad I pre-ordered this steel, as I've a feeling this will be in my top 10 for the year.
But I can see how there's as many people who hate it as love it. It's not a film you'll be 'meh' about.
