Moved a few posts to the Zavvi retailer thread here. If you want to discuss Zavvis packaging you can do it there. We need to try and keep this on the topic of the Steelbook. Thanks.

In line with Sigi's post, to get back on track - I'd comment that the one thing that is bugging me about this art is the fact that the starfield on the back is just the same as the one used on the front, just moved down a bit. Not a biggie, but once you notice it you can only with for a different star formation - looks just like an uninspired cut & paste effort, when you notice it...

Watched this film last night. Not only is it not worth a steelbook purchase, it's not worth a purchase full stop. People hailing it as 'The next Shining' need their heads examined. Absolute trash film, about 95% of which makes no sense until the last 5 minutes.

I've not heard being compared to The Shining before, that would definitely give people different expectations from the film.

I've never heard of it being referred to as the next shining?

Sounds like it's one of those films you'll either love or hate. I should be seeing it this evening.

It has a surprisingly high (86%) rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with 7.4 on IMDB and 78 on Metacritic.

Must admit, it's absolutely nothing like The Shining and that is a very strange comparison to make. VRob98 is the closest I've seen so far by comparing to 'The Man Who Fell To Earth'.

It's absolutely not for everyone, so there will be a lot of disappointed first time viewers when the steel hits, but - for me - it's one of those films that I watch one day, and am still thinking about it the day after.

It's a complex beast of a film, but the performances, visuals (stunning cinematography) and the soundtrack - man, that soundtrack.

The title of the movie is so apt for me. <shudder>

Agreed, it's a film that reminds me of Only God Forgives in that it seriously divides opinion. It's utter Love or Hate.

Personally I was lucky enough to see it in a theatre and thought it was mesmerizing, and I agree it also stayed in my head days afterwards.

If you watch the trailer that'd be about as far as the Kubrickian influence seems to extend. Pretty obvious its been keyed into that mould with HAL-type 'creation' scene's glowing red entity and the camera stalking the biker along the road which is reminiscent of The Shining's opening. Lazy comparison at best, Glazer has his own distinct voice and vision.

I'm Googling like mad to try to find where I read someone comparing it to The Shining and I'm pulling a blank. There's an article on Esquire saying it's "Scarlett's The Shining", implying it's her cinematic performance equivalent to Jack Nicholson's. Believe me, it's not a comparison I made on my own. Maybe some donkey on IMDb said it.

In any case, comparison to The Shining or no, it's still not a very good film imo.

I thought it was the best film of this year so far (9/10). It's definitely not an experience made for entertainment purposes, but for those of us that appreciate the type of art that this is, this movie more than satisfies. I get why people don't like it, but like a few people up above have said, it's a movie that sticks with you through the next day. That's a mark of a great film.

Have to agree. I watch hundreds of films a year and in my opinion it's easily one of the worst films I've ever seen.

It's been said many times before in this thread but the idea of paying £24.99 for this is just mindblowing to me lol EEK!

yeh, people said only god forgives was trash. i watched it and thought it was class.

you have to remember though, a lot of steelbook buyers get excited for actual trash like pain and gain.

i like arthouse films so i think i will like under the skin. plus i like scarlet johansson.

That's the strange thing, many excellent steels are for very poor films with no artistic worth, yet collector's fall over themselves to get them. Enders Game being a good example. I'm no innocent when it comes to sucking in the hype and have bought a few that I will probably not watch for a very long time.

Yet a film like this that to many DOES have artistic worth and will still be being talked about in years to come gets outright hatred for daring to be released in not just a steel but what could turn out to be a very good one.

Does amuse me!

My tastes cover a wide variety of genres, but a lot of the steels recently have been for forgettable films. I'm very excited that this is being released and couldn't care less if others didn't like the film, but complaining it shouldn't have a steel because they didn't get/like it is beyond ridiculous.

I never thought I would end up going ahead with buying this steel for 25GBP, but I think it will look amazing with the gloss so I gave in! I can't wait to see this in hand, but realize it likely won't arrive on my doorstep for another month. :(
Unless of course, Zavvi dispatches early like I hear Alice in Wonderland already has! Fingers crossed!

Could it be that you misinterpreted my post (#474) in this very thread......

I was in no way comparing them (content or otherwise) though, only using The Shining's cult following as an example.......
