This is an unashamed copy of the great format used by crashkelly & apsmith21 for the fantastic BD steelbook list. Thanks for that Crash & Andy!
Unless the number of releases steps up dramatically, you will find the list considerably shorter than the steelbooks one.

If the title is exclusive to a particular retailer, I will list that retailer after the title.

Please feel free to reply to the post with ones that I have missed and I will update the OP

Thanks
Martin

What happened to the digibook rush? It seems to have all dried up now, especially in the UK. I think the last UK digibook was Les Miserables, and before that Schindler's List. Both those releases were a bit underwhelming, though Schindler's List looks amazing on the shelf. Imo a steelbook can't beat a great looking digibook (especially the thick ones).

Yes I know what you mean, it does seem to be a very quiet year for digibooks. I just did a rough count-up for this years releases though and unless we hear of any more titles for 2013, here will have been 145 releases, that compares with 329 last year and only 72 in 2011! So perhaps we were spoilt last year;). As I have said before, I suspect it may be something to do with the recession, certainly in Europe. Also we should consider that some Steelbook collectors are complaining of "release overload" with so many titles coming out, that they can´t keep up!

This year digis equate to 12 per month, which is quite a lot, but of course there have been a lot of German/Austrian "blood & guts" releases amongst those, which is great for the fans, but a more balanced mix would probably have been more popular particularly with the serious collectors.
It would have been nice to see more Sci-fi, comedy and Classic movies IMHO.

in consider myself a "serious" collector by now, as i am totally enthusiastic after about one and a half years of "serious" movie buying and collecting, but at the same time i'm also a fan of those obscure horror-movie mediabooks from austria/germany. so the one thing (being a serious collector) does not contradict the other (loving trash and b-movies). just my opinion on this ;)

i agree with you about the need of more classic movies in digibook edition!!

There's just so many great films that deserve to be released as digibooks. It's interesting that you mention the recession, because a lot of the digibooks that comes out are non-English European releases, right? And then the majority of the English language releases are released in US/Canada but not in the UK.

Would love to see more digibook releases of animated films with character designs, animation sketches etc. I feel the Disney ones that are released in Europe could've been so much better if there had just been more sketches etc. I got the US Cinderella one, and it's pretty good. The quality of the storybook illustration is surprisingly high. But I would've preferred a more behind-the-scenes oriented edition. But who knows what might happen?

Have you seen the French Prestige Disney editions? They have just a couple of pages of French text, with the remaining pages showing sketches. I have Jungle Book, Bambi, Lady & the Tramp and The Lion King all very nice editions.

Don´t get me wrong - I´m not saying that fans (and collectors)of obscure horror movies aren't serious collectors, though re-reading my post I can see that it could be interpreted that way.

I would love the opportunity to buy obscure Sci-fi movies as digibooks!

I understand the initial point though. If you check what kind ob obscure, weird, cheap horror/gore movie gets the Digibook or Mediabook treatment these days, you wonder why they can't do it for lots and lots of other movies as well. I'm kinda happy about the slower Digibook release schedule though, because before I was collecting steelbooks and "having" to buy 50 new titles every month sure takes its toll...

Exactly, I think that this year the number of releases is about right (maybe a few more would have been nice), but a better mix of genres would be even better!

I've seen the one for Lion King. I really liked the idea, but I would have liked many more drawings, and rougher examples. More of everything, hehe. Also, the 'trilogy' thing puts me off, as most Disney sequels are cheap direct-to-video efforts. I guess with Disney I get pretty obsessive and ocd, but there's so much they could do. And why the hell can't they release those things outside France. They've always got so classy releases compared to most other countries. Hey, Disney UK, are you reading this? :p

I guess there's a couple of ways of looking at it. One is that you are a steelbook/digibook collector and therefore you need to collect all steelbooks/digibooks regardless of what type of films you actually care about. Another angle is to see steelbooks/digibooks as an alternative to amaray/keepcase packaging, that it's just a different way to present a film. I used to try to collect everything. The problem is that you get a lot of stuff you don't want, which makes me wish there were too many releases to be able to collect everything. I'd rather be forced to be selective, so that I can buy my favourite film in the best edition possible. At this point half of my digibook collection is films 'I sorta find interesting, if I can only get around to watching them, but I can always find an excuse to see a different one.'

Is The Exorcist 40th Anniversary Edition, released Oct 8th, a digibook? I see it advertised on Blu-ray.com as a digibook but cannot see it on your list of upcoming releases.

It's not a digibook as far as we know. No one is exactly sure what its going to be yet.
