E.g. www.blu-ray.com gives this Blu-ray PQ full marks in their review:

War of the Worlds does not offer high definition "eye candy" in the traditional sense, but it is reflective of the way the film is supposed to look, which is the ultimate compliment to any Blu-ray, no matter how rough around the edges it may be.

But of course the PQ can be disappointing, if expectations are high.

US collectors interested in getting a "cheap" but nice steelbook should take a look at this one especially if they like this movie. Right now on Amazon.com there are two UK sellers posting very attractive prices with shipping (under USD$17 shipped).

I see what you mean mate, but if you look closely there are a few gems out there and still coming out regularly: Ex_Machina, Training Day, Natural Born Killers, The Signal..... dunno, it's not all bad....
