Love this film and would happily pick it up in 4K but that art is rubbish

What’s the smiley face? Badge? Pin? Sticker? Air freshener? Coaster? A constant reminder that the art is so bad and he’s smiling at you for buying it?

Not that it’s the selling point , I just wondered

Alright I don’t get the hate.
I kind of love this design.
I’m glad it’s not like the older versions of the Steelbook that have all the characters in “Hero poses” on the front cover- the blatant superhero advertising that is used on every other film is entirely arbitrary when concerning Watchmen.

Granted I’m sure the IDEA of the artwork could have been done better- but the idea of the superheroes within a Rorschach test compliment the philosophy of the film to a T- and I think that it’s brilliant.

So not difficult to do properly. Not when you have the iconography of the smiley blood-stained face for one side and Rorschach's mask pattern for the other. With the mask in b&w, obviously.

Nice!
A new WATCHMEN steelbook sufficiently different to each of the other two (UK) has to be a good thing . . . classic Poster Art on the first, Iconic Art on the second and Rorschach (inkblot) Art on the third:-

Was hoping for black and yellow on this new steelbook and was expecting to see this design, nicely embossed and full gloss ...

... rather than what's been revealed.

Apart from that black / gold not uncommon but black / yellow = rare as hen's teeth in the UK.
