Browsing through my extensive SteelBook collection, I notice the same studio names cropping up time and time again - Some more than others. Recently I have noticed an increase in the amount of Lionsgate and Studio Canal releases infiltrating my collection, with their unique spines which make them stand out from the rest. Likewise, Eureka and Arrow are both notable for their sub-sets, and now also the Disney / Pixar releases which I am guessing a lot of people are choosing to keep together

I started off by organising my small Blu-Ray SteelBook collection in release date order. At the time this was easy and manageable as there were very few releases to contend with. When PLAY.com started offering waves, I began to store them by keeping the waves together. As my collection grew, I decided to split them up and store them aphabetically. However, this has become increasingly difficult due to the sheer amount of SteelBooks being released on a weekly basis, so I have reverted to storing them in release order just for ease

That said, I have started picking out certain titles and storing them together as a "set". For example, the Eureka Masters Of Cinema releases, Disney / Pixar releases, and Arrow releases. Lately I have begun to store the Studio Canal and Lionsgate releases together as well

By doing this, it has become apparent that certain studios seem to take more pride in their releases than others. Some seem to stick to a set style and finish throughout the range, with some offering a "cheap & cheerful" selection (Studio Canal, Lionsgate, Touchstone etc), whereas other studios will make more of an effort (Eureka, Arrow, Disney etc). Some studios tend to offer a mixed bag of products, depending on the title - FOX and Universal are two prime examples, and there doesn't seem to be any consistency with them

So I pose the question: Which studio / studios do you think offer the best SteelBook releases?

I'm not referring to which film titles you think are the best, but rather which SteelBook releases are designed better than others, and which studios are more consistent than others when it comes to quality

*NB: MGM aren't fussy who they work with. Most commonly seen with FOX, but I also found several titles where they appear with Paramount or Warner Bros

Paramount. The quality of their releases has gone down slightly in the last couple of months, but before that they consistently produced quality Steelbooks, both for new titles and catalogue titles. Their Play.com exclusive catalogue releases were top quality, I wish recent releases were as good as those.

As for the others, Arrow are very good and they also value content which is nice, but they simply don't produce enough titles that interest me unfortunately. They are my favourite niche distributor though. The other major studios are a bit hit and miss. One minute they are produce something amazing and the next they produce something really underwhelming.

Paramount. They release great steelbooks for play and HMV such as Iron Man 1&2, Captain America, Thor, Watchmen, Star Trek etc etc

Universal - everything I have bought from them over the last 2+ years has always been glossy (both Hulks, Man with Iron Fists, Adjustment bureau ect) - they are they only studio in the uk who seem 2 routinely avoid ugly plain matte finishing - there are loads of other steels from universal i dint buy from them too - though this is purely down to me being a hardcore SeLecTa in film choice (if i'm not really into the film, i wont buy the steel no matter how nice it is)

It would be nice if there was a thread for each studio, showing their back catalouge of steelbooks to see the amazing or not so amazing finishes they go for. My favouitres have always been Eureka or Arrow, but mainstream studio wise I tend to like Paramount.

Paramount. I love everyone of there steels, they just feel nice and look like they actually put alot of effort and thought into them

Paramount, though not as good these days with the crappy matte finishes. Universal will be catching them with steels such as The World's End, Kick Ass 2 - both with great artwork and lovely glossy finishes. Paramount better pull their finger out and find the gloss!

Alliance use to be my favorite until they merged with EO and gave us a really subpar recent wave

I voted for Eureka they along with Arrow give us really nice steels that are not the same recycled titles over and over again even though their releases are somewhat limited.

I consider myself like Tarantino or Scorcese a historical movie buff who appreciate all types of films. ;)

It's nice to see classic films like Touch of Evil, Double Indemnity, Metropolis, The Fall of The House of Usher, Serpico, etc getting some love too
