Who said I wanted it to sell on ebay, I'm more than happy with what I already have. Whover puts a mark up on the retail price (to sell on ebay) is profiteering. My point is, you can't have it both ways, by criticising ebayers and not the retailer if they do likewise.

This means literally evey member who is selling or trading in the classifieds section are profiteering including the Group Buys. Even if you charge a pound extra then it can be classified as profiteering.EEK!

I don't have a problem with people buying 5 copies to sell on ebay.. It's no different than what goes on in the trade forums here. People buy multiple copies of the same thing, then demand a higher price soon after it's release, if in fact the item is going up in price. If everything was an "AT COST" here in the forum, now that would be amazing.. but not practical.

If you want an item at cost, there are some people that will help, there are Group Buys, there are ample opportunity to get this from the website selling the item(with a few exceptions to be made)

I DON'T like when people buy 20+ of an item to sell, but I do understand.. If I could make money by selling items I love, then great!

snapped it up for £22.99 from zavvi ebay rather than pay £s more on ebay once they have gone

Surely its their product and they can sell it at whatever price they like. Listing it for £14.99 as per the original Zavvi page would result in them losing money after insertion, ebay and Paypal fee's.

I would be happy to pay £20 - £23 through eBay, in the knowledge that not all of that goes to Zavvi, they probably end up with £20.

An unscruplous trader would buy up the rest of those steels on Zavvi eBay and then sell them on for a higher price...

I genuinely don't have an issue with anyone buying a spare steel for trade. I've never sold a steelbook, but love trading spares for other people's spares. It's what makes this forum great.

Also.. make some friends here. Do a favor for them and there is a great chance they will return the favor. I have made some very cool friends from France and the UK who is willing to help out when I need the assistance, and I am willing to help them when they need the assistance. It's a two way street, and if you are only taking.. that street isn't going to last long.

Trust me to miss this again, that's twice I've missed Zavvi selling more copies, at £17.99 and now £22.99, and both times never missed it by much. There's certainly going to be plenty on eBay, so I'll maybe just wait and see if the price drops a little.

It's generally accepted that retailers don't profiteer. It's part of an important process of building a good customer relationship. There's no excuse for zavvi doing this, and will only damage their brand in the long term for the sake a few quid (although from what I've read, there isn't much left to damage).

I think they got caught by surprise on this one (their first exclusive?), too few copies printed and too low an initial price. But for the love of all things holy, don't do this in future, zavvi.

edited to add - at the end of the day, I expect retailers to play fair, not engage in activities of traders, they've already done this, and reprinted and re-released an old classic steelbook, what else are they going to do?

Zavvi have done this with lots of things they sell, not just steelbooks but computer games collector's editions too. If it's truly limited they'll list it at higher at higher price on eBay just after release (Metal Gear Solid HD Collectors Edition for example). They've also done this with the Wolverine and Goldeneye steelbooks. Zavvi outlet had them at £11.01 last week but have now bumped them up to £24.99 (current outlet price on eBay.co.uk).

I'm not saying I agree with it but that's the way of the world and something they've done for ages.

IMO I still think the price Zavvi has increased it to is within a normal level for something like this as the price isnt excessively high. If they listed it at a similar price to the traders £30 - £40 then I would class it as profiteering. Is £22.99 really "excessive and unfair" when you think we are basing it against a starting price of £14.99 that was in all fairness probably too low to begin with....(as you rightly pointed out!)

I feel stolen, Zavvi cancelled my steel, for no reason. Saying they can't help me, I need to re-order. When I say it's already sold-out, they say I need to retry in the future, might be available.

So sad... hope someone can help me out.

I luckily managed to pre-order this steelbook. Mine still has not arrived but I am not too bothered as long as I get it in great condition. This was a childhood favourite, so it was natural that I get this lovely steelbook! The only copy i had of this film was an old vhs copy and that's long gone. Love the look of this as well!! I may be only in the minority here, but I love the front cover (a lot of posts show hate for the cover art). So happy I got a copy before it sold out :scat:
