Mate,

It is the same old posts polluting the UK threads whenever something is shipped a bit too early. It is very rare that UK retailers charge more than a week early. I would give HMV benefit of doubt with this release.

With Gotg, I actually wanted to do a part cancellation as I found the items cheaper at Koreanmuse lol but it was too late as Nova shipped 2 weeks in advance. You don't see that many people complaining but when a UK retailer does that there always seems to be a huge scene which tickles me a bit. :naughty:

You seem to think it's this whole UK thing mate.

We pay upfront with premium retailers so if it's shipped early it's a bonus. That's you locking your money in because you can afford it when it goes up for pre order.
Sorry that happened to you but technically you was waiting on a reseller so it's a bit different. There was no guarantee you was going to be able to get a copy from Koreanmuse so that's a gamble anyway

I agree it's rare but it can annoy some and rightfully so (if you don't have funds for a week), it's usually a catalogue title this would happen to though. Not a release where next step from cinema is home release

Glad I cancelled this a while ago because usually if I'm on the fence with a HMV, Zavvi or Amazon release then have up to the week before release to cancel. So this would of been by the coming Sunday/ Monday to make my choice which would of been a pain in this instance

 ...says the guy who goes around polluting premium threads with "this just sold for X amount on eBay..." and "this release is getting hammered at the bay" and "dropping down in value already..." :p I could go on ;)

Hypocritical, no?

Hmmm.

This story of mine will interest a few here.

I requested a cancellation of a paypal order on Monday via their usual customer service email address (before they started charging on Tuesday), I hadn't received any further communication from HMV...until this morning.

I had a despatch email !!!, so I thought, damn you HMV, you see my request to cancel and go and ship it instead....EXCEPT this didn't happen. See the email I just received a miniute ago..:

--------------------
Thank you for contacting us.

As per your request, I can confirm that order number 14**** has now been cancelled, and a refund has been actioned. Please allow 5 working days for the funds to appear back into your bank account.

Please be advised that in order to do this, we have had to manually intercept your order, dispatch it from our systems and then automatically process this as a return for a refund. As a result of this, you may receive a notification that your order has been dispatched, however, I can confirm that this has been processed as a return and will be refunded shortly.

I do hope this matter has been resolved. Please feel free to contact us if you require further assistance.

Kind regards,
Jordan.

So there you are, you CAN cancel, but you may get a despatch email first. This could explain a few posts here.

Just to add, I've yet to get the paypal payment back..

Yep same with me, a despatch email and then an email from them saying they pulled it and I will be getting a refund in 5 days

excuse me just being provocateur here, i think all this early charging is wrong myself thats my view.

but if everyone that asks for a refund it takes 5 'working' days to come back is taking the pee to say the least that means today being 27th means you won't get money back till tues 3rd, so if this release is the 7th you not gained much.

i wonder how stable hmv is also if they having to take peoples money this early to deal with it all?

hope we not about to have another woolworths moment.

basil

Mine hasn't been dispatched yet. Maybe I should send them an email...........

I don't think this is a woolworths moment or pre 2014 HMV issue. Looks like they got the stock every early if it's actually being dispatched

(HMV flourish from this part of the year to January plus they have their own exlusives like vinyl that sell very well, blu rays, limited editions, Steels etc etc and a few new stores opened recently - they don't have a issue)

Yes, same as other members here.......

I emailed to cancel yesterday as I'd heard they were charging for this.

This morning got despatch email before I had a reply from CS.

Then got email telling me orders were cancelled. I replied saying 'but I've already got a despatch email'. Got another reply just now saying I will be refunded as they had to pretend it was despatched or something......

Anyway, all good. Cancelled

I do worry about this HMV being stable talk, it's probably nothing to worry about, but when they first went bust a few years ago, they screwed me for a return I sent just before they went into administration and never got the replacement (Battlestar Galactica boxset). So f them for that.

I have a few pre-orders I paid for with Paypal, and I've decided to cancel all those now, get that money back and put another order in with a debit card instead, at least i'll have that Paypal money back and secured.

My Paypal payment for Wonder Woman was refunded today, so didn't take 5 days, just a few hours after the HMV email I mentioned in my previous post.

OK I admit I know nothing being in Canada and I'm just relating a story. This isn't to scare anybody or even to predict the demise of HMV. It was the "HMV flourish from this part of the year to January" comment that reminded me.

It was probably somewhere around this time last year (maybe later) that HMV in Canada stopped receiving inventory (unknown to us at the time) then had massive sales at Black Friday,Christmas and Boxing Day (not unusual).

I ordered a ton of stuff and then they couldn't fill orders, orders were cancelled and then early in the new year they announced bankruptcy and were gone from Canada by April.

They had the exclusive in Canada for the Jack Reacher: Never Go Back steelbook.
They never received it and so Canada didn't get one.

Like I said this has nothing to do with HMV in the UK. I'm just relating a similar story because the topic came up here.

Fair dos. Apart from small isles in supermarkets and second hand shops like CEX this is the only walk in entertainment store for us in the UK (there was a article I read that showed stats about the last few years people enjoy walking into a HMV shop and buying as apossed to "just" shopping online with say Amazon which is obviously still more popular, same article had the stats on vinyl sales in the UK which were through the roof and showing HMV have had great success with their vinyl sections again).
But HMV is not going to close down because they shipped Wonder Woman early. Must be one of those rare occasions they got stock very early and embargo laws were not in the way. Or they wasn't supposed to ship early but has been a cockup in the warehouse

I don't think they've still actually despatched any copies yet though?

I got a despatched email yesterday but was still able to cancel my preorder.........

No idea. Cancelled mine ages ago.

If they have taken payment early but not dispatching for a few days then this will be the first time unlike Zavvi who have done this countless times. Are Zavvi closing down too? Lol

I remember when there was quite a few entertainment shops, there were even plenty of independent stores around. How times Change. It was a shame when HMV closed a lot of their shops as some never reopened.

Yes. I remember being able to browse in Tower Records, HMV, Virgin Megastore and Our Price. Plus places like WHSmith and the now defunct Woolworths that used to have pretty good home entertainment departments as well. You never knew what you might stumble across. Unlike these days when we are made fully aware of future releases well in advance. Which has it's advantages, but removes that sensation of 'wow' when you saw something in one of those shops that you were hoping would be released someday - whether that be on LP, CD or wonderful VHS Video!!! :D

Those where the days but it's still good to have sites like these and know what's out there and secure your copy.
What's it going to be like in 20/25 yrs time we will look back and say remember that Blu ray or DVD we had etc.
I will be an old man by then if I'm still around.
