Brilliant, I mentioned a VIP type scenario after the dr strange issue and got blasted by a certain member now saying the same thing in this thread lol classic

Its a shame people will only pay the money to upgrade membership so they can get something out of it instead of being willing to do it merely to support the website.
I wouldn't call it a "shame", as it's optional. I respect people doing this, which doesn't make people who don't, bad.
I think it's human nature.

but then you're in the same boat again, loads of people vying for the group buy.
This is exactly what I meant before.

Maybe if the really limited number that HDZeta allocated to HDN could have been released before the GB start time so that we would have then been aware of the issues before hand.

Maybe if HDN could have listed all of the links to HDZetas web pages due to the really limited stock received for the GB so that we could have then had the choice earlier to either try to purchase from the hosted GB and by doing so showing support for HDN or going direct to HDZeta knowing in advance of the limited GB stock (thus possibly relieving any issues for HDN)

I for one would have been grateful for the forewarning as I do appreciate this site and all the hard work of all the hosts who really help daily to provide information and the GB’s so that standard but supportive people like myself can own some of these fantastic limited editions of my favourite films.

I have won some and I have lost some throughout my time on this site (on this occasion I lost out) but I am not angry or bitter as I am just a little frustrated and disappointed.

Life goes on (although if I miss out on Blufans Rogue One I don’t know how I will go on with two highly anticipated release losses in one week):wow:

My ¢2 on the proposed solutions:

Lotteries: Lotteries seem great and fair in theory but cannot be trusted without complete transparency of the selecting process. People are still human and favoritism happens. If the lottery or the individuals running it prioritize premium/long time members or have friends that want a copy, the system cannot work fairly.

Premium Members Only: Only allowing premium members to participate in the GB locks out people that aren't premium members by choice or those who cannot afford the extra cost. This may sound ridiculous because of the high price of SBs. What's an additional $25? But there are people that exist who save up for a premium release and want to participate in the GB but this may be the only SB they buy for a long time. Because they can't afford this expensive hobby they shouldn't be allowed a fair chance at what they saved up for? There are already GB fees that feed the site, resulting in a higher price for a SB here than other GBs and retail sites.

Big Spenders/Collectors Only: This argument also applies to only allowing members who have spent a lot of money on SBs, regardless of premium status. In generalized terms, it's rewarding the wealthy and punishing the poor. How can someone reach the level of an affluent collector if they cannot have access on this site to buy limited releases? This also becomes an issue when you prioritize people who have collected the rest of the set already (be it DC, Marvel, Disney, etc.) SB collecting is an expensive hobby and people like myself can't afford to buy every release and don't want every release. However, I love WW so much that I wanted the HDZeta set. Should myself and others be punished for not even wanting Zeta's SS or BvS SBs?

Separate Premium and Regular Member GB: Lastly, what I believe is a viable solution and can appeal to the most people is what Blufans does with their VIP system for certain releases. Allocate a portion of the limited stock to premium members at an earlier time. Great, they have their own GB with priority. Then have a GB open to non-premium members so we all have a shot at a limited release. I wouldn't be bitter if I missed out on a GB with this setup because I would've had a fair chance. Reward premium members while giving common folk a chance, too.

I'm only interested in finding a solution that pleases the most people and gives everyone a chance at a GB on HDN in the future.

EDIT: The current system is fine and doesn't need changing if it works as it's supposed to.

So people may not be able to afford the one time payment to upgrade for $25 but what's the price difference from a HDZeta boxset in the gb to ordering direct? Probably best part of $25. So let's not play that card, one off payment to perhaps increase eligibility versus people who buy all these boxsets time after time spending best part of $25 every time?

What about what blu-ray does and doesn't let you purchase/post in a Group Buy unless you've only been active a certain amount of time? (It's probably been said but I can't be bothered to find it haha)

There was a post limit on here but what you get it people bouncing through ten-twenty threads throwing some random comment in each one and voila, group buy eligible. That's not the case now though

If you're talking about blu-ray.com, it's like your account has to be 1 day old (or a week, idk, but I prefer a week) and maybe 5 posts. It's not much but for Blufans releases, Kevin is pretty generous to newcomers when there are plenty of copies.

Nothing wrong with current GB system.

Just need to get the frickin date and time right.

You know what, you're right. It just occurred to me. We had all the convos before when Doctor Strangegate happened. We all go crazy when this happens but 99% gbs run smoothly.

I think a third tier membership could be good with some added benefits. Maybe $50 a year with exclusive third tier only group buys.. Maybe x amount of group buys hdn fee free bringing the cost down. Something but not everyone will want to do that per year especially if people can't afford one $25 payment so this ensures exclusivity to that particular membership tier

The trouble with lotteries and premium supporter allocation is that there will always be general collectors who aren’t able to purchase 30 steelbooks to be able to become a VIP etc

I for one have to be a little choosy about what edition I intend to buy as I do not have the wealth to be able to purchase every copy released

I chose not to join the Manta GB because I wanted one edition from HDZeta thus if someone wanted the Manta edition over the HDZeta then hopefully they would have been an additional opportunity for them to hopefully purchase it.

This edition was of high demand and HDZeta chose to limit the supply just like they are doing with Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 (crazy but it seems to be their business model (this may effect future sales as I for one will not be holding out for one of their releases in the near future) I vote with my wallet.

Limited stock of something desirable tends to end up on eBay at ridiculous inflated prices by people wanting to make a quick buck from collectors.

If you wanted to create a fair society with regards to individual collectors then one option would be to announce a Steelbook (including the various editions)and ask members to sign up to the edition that they would want (paying a retainer as an agreement to cover initial development costs) within a given time frame.

Send the number of people signed up including the editions required and then make to order - simple enough and hopefully a win win all around as HDN then takes an additional fee to allow us to join the list and the supplier does not have stock sitting around in a warehouse or creates bad feelings towards their brand due to poor customer service and relations.

I do not care if they make 2000 or 6000 units as I buy what I want for myself only (when available)

They don't hang about taking your money do they, I've already been charged for my one click (assumed money would be taken when the product ships)

Point system could work.

Maybe HDZeta and HDN could work it for people who have all 3 previous DC boxsets take preference or get a reserve the next one. Same for people who just collect single lenti or double lenti that way those people can continue their collections. It's more of a bitter pill to swallow missing out on an essential piece of your collection when you've got all the others.

I can't remember who I saw post it, but they were basically saying they secured a boxset elsewhere (openly) and then said they joined the GB here for the single lenti, which is fair enough I suppose but potentially cost someone the chance at the single lenti. I dunno
That was me, and I also said that if I had known the group buy allocation was this low here at HDN, I'd have tried to secure it at the other site. I only got the OC elsewhere coz it was the must have for me and the GB here didn't open before all the other GBs were already closed. I dunno why that's a problem. If I hadn't done that, I'd now be short of a box set coz by the time I checked my phone and saw the GB had opened early, the box set and double lenti were already oos. I only got another single lenti coz until now, no one from HDZeta has said anything about whether or not the single lenti's postcards are included in the box set, had they been, I would have been satisfied with just the box set. But as there's no info, I had to get another single lenti. And I decided to get it here coz I generally prefer HDN and before HDZ WW here HDN was the only place besides Ebay I got my stuff.
