Would you buy a dented steelbook?

I've came across several steelbooks up for sale on eBay recently but with dents at a reduced price, some of these could be regarded as "grails". But I've seen Aladdin brand new and sealed but is noted to be dented. I'm sure some of you relax your attitudes towards buying steelbooks just for the sakes of it. Even though the artwork can be so superb, and you just bite anyway ;)

The real question would be, what do you think about buying a steelbook you know is dented? Surely I should just buy the amaray instead as the mere point of buying steelbooks is for the sturdy case and the artwork, and wouldn't buying a dented one defeat the purpose?

I've never came across this question posted on here, so what are your opinions? :movie:

a grail, yes. An average steel, no.

It's kind of like owning a damaged Michael Jordan rookie card or a X-Men #1 with a 1.0 grade. You're buying it to have it in your collection regardless of condition.

I guess it depends on the dent. How big?
Its location?
If it was wrecked, then hell no!!
A small dent, a paint chip or two. Maybe even a spine slash, i dont mind!
But then again, I'm not too OCD about steels!

Depends how bad the dent is...
If it has creased the metal, then no.
But if it's just a small dent not near any edges, then it can easily be pushed out, so it's hardly noticeable anymore. I have done this on many steels I have bought.

Only if I can fix the dent... Or I may buy a dented one if I need only the spine or the mint part to replace on the copy I already own for the same title...

Some interesting points here. I'm not too OCD about steelbooks, I like to buy them but I don't per say collect them, I only buy movies I like or blind buy but usually under £20.

If it's dented, it only encourages me to look for a mint version and brings out the small percentage of OCD in me. Therefore, I think it's best to avoid dented steals unless like blumaster said, it happen to be of holy grail status. :)

i need my collection mint as any dents would niggle me and play on my brain,

I don't like damaged steels (who does?), but can live with very slight dents/hairline scratches as I buy most of my steels second hand.

It does annoy me when I buy one off the bay and its listed as like new, yet because they've not used the right or enough packaging it arrives damaged.

One option for the damaged steels is buying two damaged ones to make one good one - granted, not always possible if its a rare one and you'd need to make sure you get one thats damaged on the opposite side too... it's worked for me once though :)

It depends on the price and how dented the steel is. I am fine with a little ding or nick on my steel books.. but I have noticed lately that I have been more OCD about it because of the price of steelbooks! Most steels are typically 2x or more expensive than the regular blu counterparts so I would prefer them to be mint.

I bought the Futureshop Inglorious Bastards with a tiny ding on the top. Cost me 60 bucks but didn't want to pay over 100. Still annoys me. LOL

Well, it depends. Depends how bad the dent is. Sure, we all like things to be perfect but if it has a small dent, its really no big deal.

If its a bump or further damage, that us a different story.

No, I guess. I would say it depends, but you can never actually see how bad it is online, through photos. And as I always buy them online, I would say no.
And if the price is too low, it's because it's not worth it anyway, so...
