Help with MacBook Pro HDD info

I have a question that I hope you can help me with.

So I just put a new, bigger, hard drive in my laptop... Now when I try to open something, say a video, it NEVER remembers the program to use after I restart the computer.

I've set it to open with VLC, said always open with VLC, and changed all vids to open with VLC... But when I restart then try to open a video it doesn't remember that I want to use VLC.

does anyone know how to fix it?

It's even worse when trying to mount a dog file... I have to go through disk utility... but that may be a harder fix than the other.

Mother effer! The drama of this new hard drive continues!

Now when I try to update my computer it tells me there's no software update application...

So I can't update my OS anymore. SLKFjhzsdlfkjh! ****!

Backup and re-install the OS dude. So much for no problems on Mac huh? lol

I had some issues with my girl's Macbook and said f-it and I just backed it up and re-installed the entire OS from scratch.

Are you sure you didn't do some weird script that is preventing the app to work correctly?
