Apparently the new 4k remaster was a collaboration between Criterion and Second Sight, it's most likely the same.
From what I've seen in the short trailer, it looked great.
Scorcese approved it - who are we to argue.

Might well be.
I do often wonder if Director Approved restoration means what it's supposed to mean. Then again, I really do trust Second Sight. Their 4K remasters have been top class.
Who knows. Guess we'll see.

I think people should calm down when it comes to declaring a transfer to be "awful" without having seen it themselves. Also, the review was from Dr. Svet; who infamously has terrible opinions on releases.
