Immaculate

Definitely over hyped and a little overrated. After all that empty build up, the heralded ending was about as scary and shocking as a wet fart.
Average horror at best.

'Love Lies Bleeding'

3 Harris Mullets out of 5

Some thoughts...

Funny one this. Very stylish but a little dull. The story says nothing new about a well trodden noir path we've all seen before. It perhaps relies too heavily on the audience interest coming from its trashy, late 80s, sweat stained americana aesthetic, which is undoubtedly captivating, but ultimately not enough to paint over what is just a dull, well used noir murder plot. The gay romance narrative that's offered up in the opening quarter goes nowhere and the director kind of flip flops and drops in other elements at a whim, such as body horror, cop thriller, comedy and even the soundtrack hints at sci-fi with its spacial, electro beat incidental music.
It's an odd, heady concoction that just doesn't ever really get going.
Some cool sequences aside, it didn't wow me as the directors debut film Saint Maud did.
Worth a watch for Ed Harris mullet but don't race to buy a ticket.
