From my understanding this is even more hype than the superbit dvd's.

The fact its being remastered will make it look nicer. The 4K hype is nothing more than hype as the home video market continues to plumit. This last half of the year has been a decline for blu ray sales over 2012. They are trying to market 4K in hopes of people rebuying again. Aint gonna happen. The average consumer is moving on to streaming.

+1 yeah i said somthing similar a while back in the 4K thread..... but i think it'd be a lot worse without our steelbooks  .... this is why i'm cool with a lot more films getting getting steelbook releases in the last few years, and endorse it... ...basically anything which encourages consumers to buy physical over digital is a good thing imo

ofc some tools seem to think that means we are ok with re-releases and reprints, which ofc is a completey different subject.

4K is simply the same as the old super bit rate they had on DVD. The mastering is done at the higher resolution and then down converted to 1080p line resolution. So in theory you should get more information in the blu-ray than you normally do because it came from a better source to begin with. That's the theory. But it's all down to encoding etc...
I think the jury is still out on that one....
