I’m not sure whether or not Aaron Taylor-Johnson set out to become a hero of geek culture, but he’s certainly doing a great job of doing so. Not only did he star in both KICK-ASS and its sequel as the films’ titular character, but he’ll also be headlining next summer’s big-budget Hollywood reboot of GODZILLA. Now’s he’s ready to add another larger-than-life role to his résumé…
Taylor-Johnson has signed on to play Pietro Maximoff (aka Quicksilver) in Joss Whedon’s upcoming AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Whedon has confirmed that both Quicksilver and his sister, Wanda “The Scarlet Witch” Maximoff, will appear alongside The Avengers in the 2015 sequel, though no one knows for sure what kind of role that they’ll play in the film. As of now, actress Elizabeth Olsen is said to be the front-runner for the role of Wanda.
Quicksilver, of course, will also be portrayed by AMERICAN HORROR STORY actor Evan Peters in next year’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST from 20th Century Fox; a slightly confusing situation that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained to SuperHeroHype this past summer: “We both have them. There’s a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with Avengers, but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto’s relatives, but cannot have anything to do with The Avengers.”
AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON arrives May 1st, 2015. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader as Ultron.
