Last week we talked about the Denon DVD-A1UCDI that was your all around universal everything. This week we bring to you its competitor which packs alot of the same universatility, at a more affordable price! The Oppo BDP-83 will output SACD via HDMI and also has a DSD to analog conversion that bypasses PCM convert. Anchor Bay provides the video processing. The BD profile will be 2.0/ BD-Live. It boasts bitstream output of Dolby Digital Plus, as well as DTS-HD Master Audio by onboard decoding. All in a Blu-ray player, not a receiver, this is sure to keep the video buffs and audiophiles happy. Oh yeah, the price, yeah well unlike the competitors $3,500 price tag this one is MSRP’ing in at or around the $499 -$599 range. Yes, I did say “MSRP’ing” :-p
UPDATE:
In result of our reader Jesse’s comments we contacted Oppo and the player is “anticipated” to release in March. They also agreed that the players MSRP is still set at or around $499-$599. I like the MSRP as then we could see it alot lower with sale prices. 🙂
But when is the actual OPPO BDP-83 coming out? It seems to me after waiting about six months, we deserve more than a "soon". I know OPPO is doing its best but can't they at least give us a ballpark month? Since they seem to be the only game in town, at their price, they seem to be taking so long. I am beginning to think the OPPO BDP-83 is a myth.
Maybe prayer would help.
That's a good one!
Yeah I hear you on that, there is however a direct link to subscribe to know information on this player as soon as it comes available.

Post Updated, Oppo replied back, rather quickly, 2 thumbs up to Oppo!
Today, 2/25/09, Oppo will be doing their lotto drawing for the early adopter program…I'm on it, so, I must not have won…not that you really win anything..you just have to come up with $500 in two to get them to send it to you..I wish I was rich…
Hi, now that OPPO has sent its player to 50 people who are evaluating it, I know it is for real. I plan to buy it if most people give it a good write-up. So far, it sounds and looks great but I still wish I could actually see and hear it here in Manhattan but so be it. Thanks for the replies.
