Guys I think there is some confusion here. This is not Mondo owning the movie and putting it out. No different then when Best Buy or Target do a steel or even Zavvi. The studio is putting out the movie. The "line" of the two brands is Mondo X SteelBook. However it's still studio making the choice and of course Mondo is getting paid in there for their art/creative services in combination with Scanavo.

As for Mondo's poster rights that is simply Licensing. A deal is struck to do officially licensed posters on X qty of X franchise/film etc.

Any and all ideas of doing a movie need to get pitched to the one who owns the IP. In which case the studio. So if Mondo and Scanavo are on board, and then the studio is too .... then it'll get done, (barring any setbacks) and finding a retailer is usually already a given.

Oh and of course it can get intricate on some titles where a Director is brought in ... and he can scrap or can a project sometimes altogether. Or butcher it.... :p

In other words, its surprisingly quite complicated it can be sometimes before we ever see the finished product.

#000 was not originally supposed to be Drive. And its not a title that has been released yet either. Maybe one day we can share that info .... but for now, cant.

If it was scrap by a director, i guess it was a ''film d'auteur'' ( didnt find the word in english ), like Tarantino. Its cool that Mondo approach them, like Linklater's Boyhood !

a lot of time if scrapped by a director its merely the art and not the idea. So maybe 1 art choice is scrapped and they say "Do another" or something. as by example. (movie art in general)

There are also 'exclusives' like when Criterion or Twilight Time get exclusive rights to make the only versions for 'X' amount of time. I know Twilight Time usually has exclusive rights for 3 years when they do a film.
And the deals can get interesting. Criterion's deal with Disney/Touchstone's movies was such that any content Criterion produced of their movies (new transfers and extras) reverted back to Disney/Touchstone after the exclusive was over. So if you bought The Rock or Armeggedon on Blu ray after Criterion's exclusive had lapsed- it actually IS the Criterion version in Disney packaging.
And the reason some Criterion LD titles and DVD titles never made it to Blu ray: Their deal lapsed and and couldn't/wouldn't get a new one for those titles.

Yeah the rabbit hole can go quite deep. You want a movie that Tom Cruise is in to have new art? Well his face is supposed to be on the cover, so it takes at least 6 months lead time for new approval. In which time you might not get it.

I much rather have smaller titles like It Follows on Mondo X then big blockbusters!

Same. Besides Drive & Boyhood...I'm not really a fan of any of the releases. I'll continue to buy them all, because I'm a mindless sheep who sees a number on a spine and has to have them all...but it would be much nicer if they were movies I cared about!

We have Plain for arthouse and indie films. I'm only really interested in Mondo if they continue to pick iconic films that includes blockbusters. [emoji4]
Thankfully that's not their plan... what with Boyhood and all. I don't see why they can't do both :)

Why so many people want Sucker Punch i will never understand, i know the artworks for it have been cool and all but the movie just sucked so much that im pretty sure it was called SUCKer Punch for that reason alone... but then again we cant all like blue!

Ive said it before but this being a Universal film my bet is on Breakfast Club, being its 30th anniversary and all.

Breakfast Club is not bad. I would love to watch Emilio Estevez again after the Blackhawks beat the Ducks...
